Dr Kottas Cough Bronchial Tea is a medicinal tea with the active ingredients ribwort plantain, thyme and marshmallow root. Marshmallow and ribwort contain mucilage, which has a soothing effect. Thyme is rich in essential oil, which loosens stuck mucus and makes it easier to cough up.
Dr Kottas Cough Bronchial Tea is a traditional herbal medicinal product for the relief of coughs and phlegm associated with colds.

Ribwort plantain (Folium plantaginis)
- Ribwort plantain is a perennial herbaceous plant up to 50 cm tall. It is found worldwide in temperate zones. The narrow lanceolate, sparsely hairy leaves are arranged on the ground in the form of a rosette. It flowers from May to September. The leaves collected at flowering time are of medicinal importance.
- Effect: The high mucilage content, silicic acid and toning bitter substances make ribwort plantain an excellent cough remedy. It has a soothing effect on catarrhs of the upper airways and has a calming effect on the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. Used externally, ribwort plantain leaves are also suitable for treating inflammatory skin conditions.
Thyme (Herba Thymi)
- Thyme is a small semi-shrub that grows to a height of 10 to 40 cm. It is native to the rocky heaths and evergreen scrub forests of the Mediterranean region. The purple to pink-flowered labiate is collected from May to July. The whole plant has an aromatic scent.
- Effect: The main active ingredient is the essential oil with thymol, which has an antispasmodic and disinfectant effect. Thyme has an antispasmodic effect in the bronchial tubes and promotes the expectoration of mucus. It alleviates the symptoms of acute and chronic bronchitis and whooping cough as well as catarrh of the upper airways.
Marshmallow (Radix Althaeae, Folium Althaeae)
- This perennial plant, which grows up to 1.5 metres high and has soft hairs, is widespread throughout Europe and western Asia. The flowers are pale pink to white. The leaves and roots collected shortly before flowering are used medicinally.
- Effect: To relieve irritation in cases of inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat and in the gastrointestinal tract, to alleviate the urge to cough in cases of bronchial catarrh.
Aniseed (Fructus Anisi)
- Aniseed is an annual plant from the umbellifer family that grows up to 50 cm tall and originates from the eastern Mediterranean region. The plant, which flowers white from July to August, has a sweet flavour and a characteristic smell. The dried fruits, which contain 2 - 3 % essential oil (mainly anethole), are used medicinally.
- Effect: To promote mucus clearance in catarrhs of the respiratory tract, flatulence and cramp-like complaints in the gastrointestinal tract (especially in infants and small children). Aniseed facilitates expectoration, has a mild antispasmodic effect and stimulates digestion.

Directions
- Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over: 1 cup of tea 3-4 times a day
- Children from 2-12 years: 1 cup of tea up to 3 times a day
- Children under 2 years: only after medical recommendation
- Pour boiling water over 1 filter bag per cup (125 ml), cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Then squeeze out the filter bag well and drink the tea lukewarm in sips. The tea can be sweetened to taste.
- If the symptoms worsen or if there is no improvement after 7 days, a doctor should be consulted.
Advice:
- Dr Kottas Cough Bronchial Tea must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to one of the active ingredients, another member of the labiate family or aniseed.
- Special care is required when taking Dr Kottas Cough Bronchial Tea: If you experience shortness of breath, fever or purulent sputum, you should consult a doctor.
- Side effects: Hypersensitivity reactions and stomach complaints have been observed.
