The active ingredient in Coldan, naphazoline – a vasoconstrictor – reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa and inhibits the production of nasal secretions. The effect sets in within a few minutes of application and lasts for around 4 hours.

Coldan is used for the local treatment of the common cold, hay fever and sore throat; as an adjunctive treatment for inflammation of the frontal and maxillary sinuses; and to facilitate rhinoscopy (examination of the inside of the nose).

Dosage form

Drops

Directions for use

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: 1–3 drops in each nostril, 2–4 times a day at most.
Children aged 6 to 12 years: 1–2 drops in each nostril, 1–3 times a day at most.
COLDAN nasal drops are not recommended for children aged 2 to 6 years.

If use is necessary, COLDAN nasal drops must only be given to children aged 2 to 6 years on medical advice. COLDAN nasal drops must not be used in children under 2 years of age.

Method of use

For nasal use. To be instilled into the nose.

After thoroughly clearing the nose (blowing your nose), tilt your head back and instil the drops into each nostril; whilst doing so, hold the other nostril closed with your finger and breathe in. Tilting the head to one side at the same time ensures even distribution of the medicine over the mucous membrane. After use, rinse the dropper with hot water to prevent contamination of the contents of the bottle. Then dry the dropper with a clean cloth.

Duration of use

There should be an interval of at least 4 hours between each application. Treatment with COLDAN nasal drops should not be continued for longer than 7 days in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over, and for longer than 5 days in children aged 6–12 years. If your symptoms worsen or persist for more than 72 hours without any noticeable improvement, please consult a doctor. A break of at least 10 days must be observed before starting a new course of treatment.

COLDAN nasal drops must not be used for long-term treatment. Prolonged, uninterrupted use may lead to tolerance.

Suitable for use in children and adolescents aged 6 years and over, and adults. If use is necessary, Coldan Nasal Spray must only be administered to children aged 2 to 6 years on the advice of a doctor.

Active ingredients: 1 ml contains 1.0 mg of naphazoline hydrochloride. The other ingredients are: benzalkonium chloride, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate, sodium edetate, purified water.
