Dr Kottas Sage Tea is a traditional herbal medicinal product for the symptomatic treatment of mild digestive complaints such as heartburn and flatulence, for the relief of heavy sweating, for the symptomatic treatment of inflammation of the mouth and throat, to support the healing of small superficial skin inflammations.
The use of this traditional herbal medicinal product in the above-mentioned areas of application is based exclusively on many years of use.
Sage (Folium Salviae)
- Sage is a 20 to 60 cm tall shrub that is native to the entire Mediterranean region. It blooms from May to July with a light purple flower. The leaves, which are rich in tannins and essential oils, are used for medicinal purposes.
- Effect: Due to its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, secretion-promoting and antiperspirant properties, sage is used as a rinse for inflammation of the mouth and throat and as a tea drink for indigestion, flatulence, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa and diarrhoea.

Use
For the symptomatic treatment of mild digestive complaints such as heartburn and flatulence, to relieve heavy sweating:
- Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over: 1 cup of tea 3 times a day
- Pour boiling water over 1 filter bag per cup (125 ml), cover and leave to infuse for 5-10 minutes. Then squeeze out the filter bag and drink the tea lukewarm, in sips. The tea can be sweetened to taste.
- Do not take for longer than 2 weeks without interruption.
- If the symptoms worsen or if there is no improvement after 14 days, a doctor must be consulted.
- Use in children and adolescents under 12 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient data available.
For the symptomatic treatment of inflammation of the mouth and throat:
- Adults, adolescents and children over 6 years of age: gargle 3-4 times a day
- Pour boiling water over 1 filter bag per cup (125 ml), cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Then squeeze out the filter bag, allow the tea to cool and gargle with lukewarm tea (for use in the mouth and throat).
- If the symptoms worsen or if there is no improvement after 7 days, a doctor should be consulted.
- Use in children under 6 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient data available.
To support the healing of small areas of skin inflammation:
- Adults, adolescents Children over 6 years: Apply 1 compress 2-4 times daily
- Pour boiling water over 1 filter bag per cup (125 ml), cover and leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Then squeeze out the filter bag, allow the tea to cool, soak a clean compress in the tea and apply to the skin for 20-30 minutes.
- If the symptoms worsen or there is no improvement after 14 days, a doctor must be consulted.
- Use in children under 6 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient data available.
- The intake of sage leaves could influencethe effectiveness of medicines that bind to certain sites in the brain (the so-called GABA receptors), such as some sleeping pills (e.g. barbiturates, benzodiazepines). It is therefore not recommended to take them at the same time.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicinal product. As there is insufficient data available, use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding is not recommended.
- Ability to drive and use machines: Warning: This medicinal product may impair the ability to react and drive. (Only applies to taking as a tea (not when gargling or using as a compress))
- If you have used a larger amount of Dr Kottas sage tea than you should: Symptoms of an overdose may include Feeling hot, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, cramps. Overdoses only occur when taking 15g sage leaves or more (equivalent to approx. 8 filter bags).
