Sage (Folium Salviae)
- Sage is a shrub growing to a height of 20 to 60 cm, native to the entire Mediterranean region. It flowers from May to July, producing light purple blossoms. The leaves, which are rich in tannins and essential oils, are used for medicinal purposes.
- Effects: Owing to its antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties, as well as its ability to promote secretion and inhibit perspiration, sage is used as a mouthwash for inflammation of the mouth and throat, and as a herbal tea for indigestion, flatulence, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa and diarrhoea.
