Dr Kottas Nervous Sleep Tea is a traditional herbal medicinal product for use in mild nervous restlessness, mild stress symptoms and difficulty falling asleep.
The use of this traditional herbal medicinal product in the above-mentioned areas of application is based exclusively on many years of use.
Valerian (Radix Valerianae)
- This strong, perennial plant grows to a height of over 1 metre and is native to the whole of Europe and temperate regions of Asia. It blooms from June to August with light pink to white flowers that have a pleasant odour. The medicinally used rhizome (the biennial plants are richest in active ingredients) develop a strong, characteristic odour when dried.
- Effect: Calming for nervous agitation and restlessness, difficulty falling asleep, nervous, cramp-like pain in the stomach and intestines.
Lemon balm (Folium Melissae)
- This perennial, usually highly branched plant grows to a height of around 30 to 70 cm. Its egg-shaped leaves have a lemon-like odour and taste. The typical odour is due to the essential oil (with the main components citral and citronella).
- Effect: Lemon balm has a calming effect and helps with nervous sleep disorders and gastrointestinal complaints. Its antispasmodic effect alleviates stomach and bile problems.
Peppermint (Folium Menthae piperita)
- Peppermint is a spontaneous cross between two types of mint (M. spicata and M. aquatica). It is sterile, i.e. it cannot reproduce naturally. It was first discovered in England in 1696 in a field of spearmint and has been cultivated in the form of seedlings ever since. It grows up to 90 cm high and contains essential oil. The leaves have a characteristic odour when crushed.
- Effect: The main active ingredient in peppermint is essential oil, especially menthol. Peppermint leaves are used to treat colds and headaches and relieve cramp-like complaints in the biliary tract and gastrointestinal tract.
Orange blossom (Flos Aurantii)
- Like the lemon tree, the bitter orange or bitter orange tree is a tree up to 5 metres tall with evergreen leaves. The medium-sized, white to cream-coloured flowers are highly fragrant with a sweet, heavy scent and are found in single or few-flowered, leaf-axial clusters. The roundish fruit has a diameter of 7-8 cm, is flattened at both ends and has a thick, rough, orange-coloured skin. The flesh has an acidic, bitter flavour.
- Effect: Due to their calming and sleep-promoting effect, orange blossoms are ideal for treating states of agitation and sleep disorders. They also have a nerve-strengthening and stomach-soothing effect. They can be used for loss of appetite and digestive problems, as well as for gout and sore throats.
Liquorice (Radix Liquiritiae)
- Liquorice is a woody, perennial shrub that grows up to 2 metres high. It has an extensive root system with a taproot. The bluish to light purple butterfly flowers are arranged in spike-like, upright inflorescences. The dried secondary roots collected in late autumn to spring are used medicinally.
- Effect: The glycyrrhizin contained in liquorice root has a cough-reducing, anti-inflammatory and expectorant effect. It also inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses, which means that liquorice root can also be used to treat coughs and inflammation in the mouth and throat.
