Dr Kottas Flu and Cold Tea is a medicinal tea with the active ingredients lime and elderflower, ribwort leaves, marshmallow root and meadowsweet flowers. Lime and elderflowers are used in folk medicine for sweating cures. Marshmallow root and ribwort leaves contain mucilage, which soothes the irritating cough that often occurs with flu-like infections. Meadowsweet flowers support the healing process.
Dr Kottas Flu and Cold Tea is a traditional herbal medicinal product for relieving the symptoms of a cold in its early stages, such as a dry cough and fever.
The use of this traditional herbal medicinal product in the stated area of application is based exclusively on many years of use.
Elderberry (Flos Sambuci)
- Elderberry usually grows to a height of 3 - 4 metres, but can also grow up to 10 metres. It is characterised by its warty, unpleasant-smelling bark and large inflorescences with yellowish-white flowers, which develop into shiny black to black-violet berries in autumn. The main active ingredients of the flowers are essential oils, diaphoretic glycosides and flavonoids.
- Effect: Elderflowers have a strong diaphoretic and antipyretic effect and mobilise the body's own defences.
Lime tree (Flos Tiliae)
- The lime tree is a stately tree that can grow up to 30 metres tall and live for several hundred years. The greenish-yellow flowers exude a pleasant fragrance. The flavour is slightly sweet and slimy. The flowers are used medicinally.
- Effect: Lime blossom activates the body's own defences, which means that colds subside more quickly. They are used for sweating cures (note: always consult your doctor), to relieve the urge to cough in the case of catarrh of the respiratory tract and for colds.
Ribwort plantain (Folium plantaginis)
- Ribwort plantain is a perennial herbaceous plant up to 50 cm tall. It is found worldwide in temperate zones. The narrow lanceolate, sparsely hairy leaves are arranged on the ground in the form of a rosette. It flowers from May to September. The leaves collected at flowering time are of medicinal importance.
- Effect: The high mucilage content, silicic acid and toning bitter substances make ribwort plantain an excellent cough remedy. It has a soothing effect on catarrhs of the upper airways and has a calming effect on the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. Used externally, ribwort plantain leaves are also suitable for treating inflammatory skin conditions.
Marshmallow (Radix Althaeae, Folium Althaeae)
- This perennial plant, which grows up to 1.5 metres tall and has soft hairs, is widespread throughout Europe and western Asia. The flowers are pale pink to white. The leaves and roots collected shortly before flowering are used medicinally.
- Effect: To relieve irritation in cases of inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat and in the gastrointestinal tract, to alleviate the urge to cough in cases of bronchial catarrh.

Directions for use
- Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over: 1 cup of tea 3-4 times a day
- Pour boiling water over 1 filter bag per cup (125 ml), cover and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Then squeeze out the filter bag well and drink the tea lukewarm in sips. The tea can be sweetened to taste.
- For use as a traditional sweating cure: after taking the tea, cover it and spend some time in bed.
- If the symptoms worsen or there is no improvement after 7 days, a doctor should be consulted.
- Use in children under 12 years of age is not recommended as there is insufficient data available.
Advice:
- Dr Kottas Flu and Cold Tea must not be taken if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to any of the active ingredients or salicylates.
- Special care is required when taking Dr. Kottas Flu and Cold Tea: If shortness of breath, fever or purulent sputum occurs, seek medical advice immediately.
- Side effects: Slight stomach discomfort has been observed.
