After wetting with Tacholiquin® 1% solution, mucus and secretions on the mucous membrane are better dissolved without impairing the physiological conditions on the mucous membrane. Tacholiquin® 1% solution contains tyloxapol, a non-ionic wetting agent that produces a particle spectrum of the inhalate that is favourable for inhalation therapy. Tacholiquin® 1% solution also contains glycerine to stabilise the droplet spectrum.
Tacholiquin® 1% solution is used for acute and chronic irritation or inflammation of the respiratory tract and to prevent and eliminate secretions in cases of mechanical airway obstruction (under medical supervision), as well as to promote infectious sputum production, as an aid in diagnostic measures and to support local antibiotic therapy.
Tacholiquin® 1% solution can be applied both as an inhalation and as an instillation. For inhalation, nebulisation using an aerosol device (e.g. Airbox Nebulizer C1 aerosol therapy device) is required. Instillation may only be carried out in consultation with a doctor and by trained specialist personnel.
Areas of application
For acute and chronic irritation or inflammation of the airways, e.g:
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Sinusitis (inflammation of the paranasal sinuses)
- Tracheitis (inflammation of the windpipe)
- Bronchitis and bronchiolitis (inflammation of the large and small bronchi)
- Bronchial asthma (chronic, inflammatory disease of the airways associated with paroxysmal breathlessness)
- Pseudocroup (viral inflammation of the larynx associated with coughing and breathlessness)
- Pneumonia (lung inflammation) Bronchiectasis (enlargement of the bronchial tubes)
- Congenital and acquired atelectasis (non-ventilated lung areas due to collapsed lung sections)
Tacholiquin® 1% solution is suitable for all age groups from 3 months or 6.5 kg body weight.

How to use
How is TACHOLIQUIN 1% solution used?
- Tacholiquin can be applied both as an inhalation and as an instillation. For inhalation, nebulisation using an aerosol device is required - commercially available inhalation devices fulfil this requirement, in particular ultrasonic devices, but also devices operated with a compressor or diaphragm pump, compressed air or oxygen. So-called steam or bronchitis boilers with hot water are unsuitable.
- To use in the inhaler, open the cap of the bottle by pulling off the cap on the ring. Pour the undiluted solution into the container of the inhaler. In many cases, a quantity of 5 ml is sufficient, but this may vary depending on the device used (please refer to the inhaler instructions for use).
- The inhaler used should be cleaned according to the manufacturer's instructions. For instillation, the solution is diluted 1:1 with distilled water or saline solution from the pharmacy and applied directly to the mucous membrane locally using a pipette or syringe, e.g. bronchoscopically before suctioning out the mucus.
How often and for how long should TACHOLIQUIN 1% solution be used?
Inhalation
- Short inhalation: Inhale approx. 5 ml of Tacholiquin 1% solution several times a day, usually 3 - 5 times, for 15 - 30 minutes.
- Continuous long-term inhalation: The use of a 0.1% solution over several hours or days is generally sufficient. Distilled water or saline solution from the pharmacy can be used for dilution. In severe cases and in threatening conditions of respiratory insufficiency, continuous continuous inhalation (one to several hours) using an aerosol bonnet or half-open face tent is recommended. As Tacholiquin 1% solution is well tolerated, the duration of treatment can be extended to 24 - 48 hours if necessary.
- Instillation: Direct local application to the mucous membrane can be repeated as required and is particularly recommended if severe obstructions acutely impede breathing. In tracheotomised patients, repeated daily instillation of a few drops of Tacholiquin 1% solution through the tracheal cannula improves the removal of encrusted secretions.
Ingredients
Tacholiquin 1% solution is a sterile, clear, colourless, tasteless and odourless solution. 1 ml contains 0.01 g tyloxapol, 0.05 g glycerine and sodium hydrogen carbonate in aqueous solution. Tacholiquin 1% solution is a class IIa medical device.
