Flatulence is usually harmless and depends on your diet. It is completely normal for the body to "release" air through the intestines from time to time. It is often dietary errors that lead to too much air in the stomach and intestines. Fortunately, these can be easily controlled with a few changes.

Unhealthy sweet and fatty foods are just as responsible for flatulence as diet, light and convenience foods. The latter often contain flavour carriers such as lactose, sorbitol as a sugar substitute or fructose as a sweetener, which lead to stomach problems for many people.

Sometimes a bloated belly also hides a food intolerance. Fructose, lactose and gluten can be intolerable. Irritable bowel syndrome can also lead to increased gas formation.
Bloating is also possible due to the strained retention of air. It can also be caused by severe constipation and, more rarely, a narrowing of the intestine. Other causes can be biliary colic or, in very rare cases, a heart attack, intestinal obstruction or intestinal paralysis.
When it comes to digestive problems, the mind plays a major role: stress, time pressure and nervousness often lead to hasty eating, with a lot of air being swallowed.
