Double Heart Stomach Gel is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux to relieve the associated symptoms such as heartburn, heartburn during pregnancy, reflux oesophagitis, acid regurgitation, indigestion, nocturnal reflux symptoms, coughing and laryngitis.

Mechanism of action

Doppelherz's stomach gel is based on sodium alginate and carbonates, and its effectiveness can be explained by a physical mechanism of action. As soon as it comes into contact with the acidic pH conditions in the stomach, sodium alginate (a natural polymer obtained from brown algae) forms a gel. At the same time, the carbonates release carbon dioxide, which allows the gel to float and form a protective layer that acts as a physical barrier to prevent the reflux of gastric juices into the oesophagus. Sodium carbonate also helps to reduce the acidity of the stomach. Due to its special properties, the product protects the mucous membrane of the oesophagus from acid attack with a barrier effect. This promotes regeneration and helps to prevent the risk of relapse of reflux oesophagitis. The formulation, which is characterised by a specific balance between sodium alginate and carbonates, promotes rapid action.

Heartburn and reflux - what is it actually?

The term "reflux" refers to the backflow of bitter stomach acid into the oesophagus. Reflux disease (reflux oesophagitis) is a recurring irritation of the oesophagus caused by rising stomach acid. In fact, reflux complaints are among the most common stomach complaints.

Normally, a sphincter muscle between the oesophagus and stomach prevents the corrosive stomach acid from flowing back into the oesophagus. The stomach acid consists mainly of water, mucous substances, digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid, which ensures an acidic pH value of between 1 and 1.5. This helps to fight pathogens and support the digestive process. The stomach itself is protected from the aggressive stomach acid by the gastric mucosa.

Directions for use

• Adults and children over 12 years: Take 1 to 2 sachets after meals and before going to bed. Shake well before taking.
• Children under 12 years: May only be given on medical advice. Carefully follow your doctor's instructions on how to take the product.
• Advice: Store the product at temperatures between 8°C and 25°C, away from light and heat. Do not store in the refrigerator. Do not use in severe renal failure. Do not use in severe renal insufficiency. If hypersensitivity to the ingredients occurs, avoid use of the product. If adverse reactions occur, discontinue use and consult your doctor. The product may interfere with the absorption of oral medications. Please consult your doctor if you are taking such medication. In any case, a time interval of 2 hours should be considered between the intake of Double Heart Active Stomach Gel for Heartburn + Reflux and the administration of another medicine. This product contains approx. 100 mg sodium (4.4 mmol) and approx. 36 mg calcium (0.9 mmol) per sachet (10 ml). Please consult your doctor if you require a salt-reduced diet, i.e. if you suffer from a case of high blood pressure, heart, kidney or liver failure or hypercalcaemia, nephrocalcinosis or recurrent calcium-containing kidney stones.
