The liver is an organ that performs true miracles. The shear weight (1400 grams) has to put up with quite a lot: Fatty foods, sugar, alcohol and medication make life difficult for the liver. Nevertheless, it usually works reliably and smoothly - and for a lifetime!

The liver is ...
  • of great importance for fat and protein metabolism
  • Producer of cholesterol
  • Producer of bile, which is responsible for fat digestion
  • an important detoxification organ
  • Stores carbohydrates in the form of glycogen

The liver is the only organ besides the heart that is involved in two blood circuits. Around 2000 litres of blood flow through it every day. Too much fat and alcohol damage it. It is particularly insidious that liver disease is not noticed, or only very late, as the liver is very insensitive to pain. The first signs of liver disease are tiredness, difficulty concentrating, itching, loss of appetite, changes in weight, a feeling of pressure in the upper abdomen, clay-coloured stools, brown urine and the typical yellowing of the skin or eyes.
So take care of your liver and treat it well. Above all, a healthy diet and little alcohol will keep the organ fit.
