Imodium 2 mg capsules are a medicine for diarrhoea and contain the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adolescents aged 12 years and over and adults.
Treatment with loperamide hydrochloride lasting longer than 2 days must only be carried out under a doctor’s prescription and with ongoing medical supervision. If you do not feel better after 2 days, or if your condition worsens, contact your doctor.
Imodium is a medicine for diarrhoea.
It is used to treat short-term (acute) diarrhoea that cannot be controlled by other measures (diet, fluid and salt replacement) and wherethe use of antibiotics is not indicated.
IMODIUM® 2 mg capsules are used to treat acute diarrhoea. They help to firm up the stools, thereby preventing unnecessary weakening of the body due to excessive loss of fluids and electrolytes.

- Imodium is a medicine for diarrhoea and contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride.
Dosage form
Directions for use
- Dosage Adults:Start with 2 capsules. Thereafter, if necessary, take 1 capsule after each episode of diarrhoea. The maximum dose is 4 capsules per day.
- Dosage for adolescents aged 12 years and over:Initial dose 1 capsule; maximum dose 4 capsules per day.
- The initial dose should be taken at the start of treatment for acute diarrhoea. Thereafter, a repeat dose should be taken after each loose stool. The recommended maximum daily dose must not be exceeded.
- Children under 12 years of age: Imodium must not be taken by children under 12 years of age.
- Method of administration: For oral use. The hard capsules should be swallowed whole with a little liquid.
- Duration of use: Do not take Imodium for longer than 2 days without medical advice. If diarrhoea persists after 2 days of treatment with Imodium, Imodium must be stopped and a doctor consulted. Treatment with medicines containing loperamide for longer than 2 days must only be carried out under a doctor’s prescription and with ongoing medical supervision. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you feel that the effect of Imodium is too strong or too weak.
Ingredients
- The active ingredient is: loperamide hydrochloride. Each hard capsule contains 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are: Capsule contents: lactose, maize starch, talc, magnesium stearate; capsule shell: gelatine, colouring agents [titanium dioxide (E 171), yellow and black iron oxide (E 172), indigotine (E 132), erythrosine (E 127)].
