The active substance contained in Loperamid "ratiopharm" acute film-coated tablets, loperamide hydrochloride, isa strong and long-acting diarrhoea remedy that inhibits the disturbed intestinal movements by directly influencing the intestinal wall (antiperistaltic effect). It also increases the tension of the intestinal wall and the sphincter muscle.

Loperamide "ratiopharm" acute film-coated tablets are suitable forthe symptomatic treatment of short-lasting (acute) diarrhoea in adults and children aged 12 years and over, if this could not be controlledwith other measures (diet, replacement of water and salts).

Indications

For the symptomatic treatment of short-lasting (acute) diarrhoea that cannot be controlled with other measures (diet, replacement of water and salts).

Treatment with Loperamid ratiopharm® acute beyond 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and observation of the course of treatment.

Dosage form

Film-coated tablets

Directions for use

Adults

First dose: 2 tablets
Repeat dose: 1 tablet
Maximum daily dose: 4 tablets

Adolescents between 12 and18 years

First dose: 1 tablet
Repeat dose: 1 tablet
Maximum daily dose: 4 tablets

Advice: The first dose should be taken at the beginning of the treatment of acute diarrhoea.Thereafter, the repeat dose should be taken after each unformed stool. The recommended maximum daily dose must not be exceeded. If your symptoms have not improved after 2 days, consult a doctor immediately.

Loperamid "ratiopharm" acute film-coated tablets must notbe taken by children under 12 years of age. A daily dose of 4 film-coated tablets must not be exceeded, as severe constipation may occur.

Method of administration

The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with a little liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water).

Duration of use

Loperamid "ratiopharm" acute film-coated tablets mustnot be taken for longer than 2 dayswithout a doctor's prescription andobservation of the course of treatment, as severe constipationmay occur.

Ingredients

The active substance is: loperamide hydrochloride

1 film-coated tablet contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride.

The other ingredients are:maize starch, lactose monohydrate (42.8 mg per film-coated tablet), microcrystalline cellulose, copolyvidone,highly dispersed silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, macrogol 6000, silicone antifoam emulsion SE 4.
