MOVICOL® Junior flavourless 6.9 g powder for the preparation of an oral solution, 30 ST

The name of this medicine is Movicol Junior flavourless 6.9 g powder for oral solution. It is a medicine from the group of laxatives for the treatment of chronic constipation in children aged 1 to 11 years and for the treatment of persistent constipation with faecal stasis in the bowel, known as "coprostasis", in children aged 5 to 11 years.

Movicol Junior flavour-free helps your child to have a pleasant bowel movement, even if they have already suffered from constipation for a long time.

Directions for use

This medicine can be taken at any time and independently of a meal. Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 62.5 ml (¼ glass) of water and give it to your child to drink.

Chronic constipation:

The dosage of Movicol Junior flavour-free depends on the age of the child and his or her response to treatment.

• At the start of treatment, children aged 1 to 6 years should be given 1 sachet (=1 dose) daily.
• Children aged 7 to 11 years should be given 2 sachets daily.

On the advice of your doctor, the number of sachets can be increased until your child has a soft stool. If it is necessary to increase the dose, it is best to do so every other day. In children under 2 years of age, the maximum recommended dose of 2 sachets per day should not be exceeded. In children aged 2 to 11 years, no more than 4 sachets a day should normally be sufficient.

It is not necessary to drink the solution all at once. If the child prefers, half of the solution can be taken in the morning and the other half in the evening.

Faecal congestion (coprostasis):

Before your child takes Movicol Junior flavour-free for the treatment of faecal stasis (coprostasis), it must be medically clarified that your child actually suffers from this condition. Movicol Junior flavour-free is dosed as follows:

Number of sachets of Movicol Junior flavour-free - Age (years):

• Age 5-11 - Day 1: 4 sachets
• Age 5-11 - Day 2: 6 sachets
• Age 5-11 - Day 3: 8 sachets
• Age 5-11 - Day 4: 10 sachets
• Age 5-11 - Day 5: 12 bags
• Age 5-11 - Day 6: 12 bags
• Age 5-11 - Day 7: 12 sachets

The daily dose (number of sachets) should be taken as single doses within 12 hours (e.g. 8 am to 8 pm). Each sachet is dissolved in 62.5 ml (¼ glass) of water. Treatment can be discontinued as soon as the medicine has taken effect. This is manifested by your child passing large amounts of stools and/or watery diarrhoea.

Preparing the solution:

• Open the sachet and pour the contents into a glass. Add ¼ glass (about 62.5 ml) of water. Stir until the powder has completely dissolved and the Movicol Junior flavour-free solution is clear or slightly cloudy and give it to your child to drink.
• If your child is taking Movicol Junior flavour-free for faecal stasis (coprostasis), it may be easier to dissolve all 12 sachets in 750 ml of water.

Duration of use:

• Chronic constipation: Treatment should be given over a longer period, at least 6-12 months.
• Faecal constipation (coprostasis): The duration of treatment with Movicol Junior flavour-free can be up to 7 days.

Ingredients

• Each 6.9 g sachet of Movicol Junior flavour-free contains the following ingredients: macrogol 3350 6.563 g, sodium chloride 0.1754 g, sodium hydrogen carbonate 0.0893 g, potassium chloride 0.0251 g.
• After preparing a solution with ¼ glass (62.5 ml) of water, the following results for each sachet: sodium 65 mmol/l, chloride 53 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l, hydrogen carbonate 17 mmol/l.
• Movicol Junior flavour-free contains no colourings, flavourings or sweeteners.
