MOVICOL® Junior flavour-free powder stick sachet, 30 ST

The name of this medicinal product is MOVICOL® Junior unscented powder in sachets . It is a medicine belonging to the group of laxatives, used to treat chronic constipation in children aged between 1 and 11 years and to treat persistent constipation with a build-up of stools in the bowel, known as ‘coprostasis’, in children aged between 5 and 11 years.

Movicol Junior flavourless helps your child achieve comfortable bowel movements, even if they have been suffering from constipation for a long time.

Directions for use

This medicine can be taken at any time, regardless of mealtimes. Dissolve the contents of one sachet in 62.5 ml (¼ glass) of water and give it to your child to drink.

Chronic constipation:

The dosage of Movicol Junior flavourless depends on the child’s age and their response to treatment.

• At the start of treatment, children aged 1 to 6 years should be given 1 sachet (= 1 dose) daily.
• Children aged 7 to 11 years should be given 2 sachets daily.

On the advice of your doctor, the number of sachets may be increased until your child has soft stools. If an increase in dose is necessary, this is best done every other day. For children under 2 years of age, the recommended maximum dose of 2 sachets a day should not be exceeded. For children aged 2 to 11 years, taking no more than 4 sachets a day should normally be sufficient.

It is not necessary to drink the solution all at once. If the child prefers, half the solution can be taken in the morning and the other half in the evening.

Constipation (coprostasis):

Before your child takes Movicol Junior unscented to treat faecal impaction (coprostasis), a doctor must confirm that your child is actually suffering from this condition. Movicol Junior unscented is dosed as follows:

Number of sachets of Movicol Junior flavourless – Age (years):

• Ages 5–11 – Day 1: 4 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 2: 6 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 3: 8 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 4: 10 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 5: 12 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 6: 12 sachets
• Ages 5–11 – Day 7: 12 sachets

The daily dose (number of sachets) should be taken as single doses within a 12-hour period (e.g. 8 am to 8 pm). Each sachet is dissolved in 62.5 ml (¼ glass) of water. Treatment may be stopped as soon as the medicine has taken effect. This is indicated by your child passing large amounts of stools and/or watery diarrhoea.

Preparing the solution:

• Open the sachet and pour the contents into a glass. Add ¼ glass (approximately 62.5 ml) of water. Stir until the powder has completely dissolved and the Movicol Junior flavourless solution is clear or slightly cloudy, then give it to your child to drink.
• If your child is taking Movicol Junior flavourless to treat faecal impaction (coprostasis), it may be easier to dissolve all 12 sachets in 750 ml of water.

Duration of treatment:

• Chronic constipation: Treatment should be continued over a longer period, for at least 6–12 months.
• Faecal impaction (coprostasis): Treatment with Movicol Junior unscented may last up to 7 days.

Ingredients

• Each 6.9 g sachet of Movicol Junior unscented contains the following ingredients: Macrogol 3350 6.563 g, sodium chloride 0.1754 g, sodium bicarbonate 0.0893 g, potassium chloride 0.0251 g.
• When a solution is prepared with ¼ glass (62.5 ml) of water, each sachet contains: sodium 65 mmol/l, chloride 53 mmol/l, potassium 5.4 mmol/l, hydrogen carbonate 17 mmol/l.
• Movicol Junior, flavourless, contains no colourings, flavourings or sweeteners.
