Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3-Day – Combination Vaginal Tablets and Cream are antifungal medicines (medicines for fungal infections) used to treat vaginal fungal infections.

The cream can also be used to treat fungal infections of the glans and foreskin. It is effective against pathogens that can cause vaginal fungal infections, as well as against certain bacteria. The active ingredient in Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3-Day Combination, clotrimazole, inhibits the growth of fungi or kills them.

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3-Day Combi is used to treat:

vaginal discharge and inflammation caused by fungi, usually Candida species, as well as by bacteria sensitive to Canesten
Fungal infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas,
inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men, caused by yeast fungi (Candida balanitis).

Directions for use

The vaginal tablets should be inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina once a day – in the evening before going to bed – for 3 consecutive days. This is best done whilst lying on your back with your legs slightly bent. Note: The vaginal tablets require moisture to dissolve completely. If the vagina is dry, the vaginal tablet may not dissolve fully. This can be recognised by the expulsion of crumbly pieces of the tablet. To prevent this, it is important to insert the tablet as deeply as possible, preferably before going to bed. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated. However, if symptoms recur within 2 months, consult your doctor.

Using the vaginal tablet with the Canescomfort applicator: Use the Canescomfort applicator to insert the vaginal tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina. Preferably before going to bed on three consecutive nights.

Wash your hands before removing the vaginal tablet and the applicator from the packet, and again afterwards once you have used the applicator.

Method of use – applicator:

Remove the applicator from the packet and pull out the applicator rod with the red cap. Insert the vaginal tablet into the open end of the applicator so that the rounded side of the vaginal tablet is facing downwards. Push the applicator rod with the red cap into the applicator until you feel it click into place.
Once you have felt it click into place, remove the red cap from the applicator rod and then carefully insert the applicator into the vagina up to the patterned grip area.
Hold the applicator by the patterned grip area and gently push the applicator rod all the way in to insert the vaginal tablet.
After use, completely dismantle the applicator for cleaning, rinse it thoroughly in warm (not boiling) soapy water for 30 seconds, and wipe the individual parts carefully. Store the applicator in a clean and safe place.

When reusing the applicator, ensure that the red cap is securely refitted onto the applicator rod, and repeat the procedure from step 2. After final use, dispose of the Canescomfort applicator in a safe place, out of the reach of children. The Canescomfort applicator must not be flushed down the toilet. During pregnancy, treatment with the vaginal tablets should be carried out without the Canescomfort applicator.

Use without the Canescomfort applicator: Insert the tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina – ideally whilst lying on your back with your legs slightly bent.

Children and adolescents: The vaginal tablets are intended for use in adults. In persons under 18 years of age, treatment with the vaginal tablets must only be carried out on medical advice. No data are available on the safety and efficacy of Canesten Clotrimazole 3-Day Combi in children and adolescents.

Method of use (cream):

Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas of skin 1 to 3 times a day and rub in. A strip of cream approximately 1/2 cm long is usually sufficient for an area roughly the size of the palm of the hand. For infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas in women, apply the cream 1 to 3 times a day to the affected skin areas (external genitalia up to the anus). The cream is also recommended for the simultaneous treatment of inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men (Candida balanitis) to prevent a relapse.
If you have inflammation of the external female genitalia or your partner has a fungal infection of the penis, both you and your partner should undergo additional local treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole Cream to prevent re-infection.
Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicides or other vaginal products whilst being treated with this medicine.
To ensure long-term success of the treatment, do not stop using Canesten Clotrimazole vaginal tablets or Canesten Clotrimazole cream once the acute symptoms have subsided.

Duration of treatment:

Vaginal tablets: A course of treatment over three consecutive days is usually sufficient to clear up a fungal infection. However, the treatment may be repeated if necessary. Do not carry out the treatment during your period, as the medicine cannot work effectively at this time. Treatment should therefore be completed before your period begins.
Cream: The usual duration of treatment is 1 to 2 weeks. Generally, the symptoms of a fungal vaginal infection (such as itching, discharge and a burning sensation) subside significantly within the first four days of treatment; this means that symptoms may persist for a few days after completing the 3-day course of treatment. If there is no significant improvement in your symptoms after 4 days, please contact your doctor.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is clotrimazole.
Vaginal tablets: 1 vaginal tablet contains 0.2 g of clotrimazole. The other ingredients are: calcium lactate pentahydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, maize starch, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, lactic acid.
Cream: 1 g of cream contains 0.01 g of clotrimazole. 1 cm of cream contains 2.2 mg of clotrimazole. The other ingredients are: benzyl alcohol, cetylstearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, purified water, sorbitan monostearate.
