Canesten® Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi, 1 ST

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn Once – a combination vaginal tablet and cream – is an antifungal medicine (used to treat fungal infections) for the treatment of vaginal fungal infections. The cream can also be used to treat fungal infections of the glans and foreskin . The vaginal tablet is inserted into the vagina once; the cream is used for theexternal treatment of affected areas of skin.

The treatment is effective against pathogens that can cause vaginal fungal infections, as well as against certain bacteria. Clotrimazole, the active ingredient in Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn Once – Combination, inhibits the growth of fungi or kills them.

When is Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn Once used?

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn Once – Combi is used to treat:

• vaginal discharge and inflammation caused by fungi, usually Candida species, as well as by bacteria sensitive to Canesten.
• Fungal infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas.
• Inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men, caused by yeast fungi (Candida balanitis).

Directions for use

Vaginal tablet

Insert one vaginal tablet once in the evening before going to bed, as deeply as possible into the vagina . This is best done whilst lying on your back with your legs slightly bent.

Note: The vaginal tablet requires moisture to dissolve completely. If the vagina is dry , the vaginal tablet may not dissolve completely. This can be recognised by the passage of crumbly pieces of the tablet. To prevent this , it is important to insertthe tablet as deeply as possible, preferably before going to bed .

If necessary, the treatment can be repeated. However , if symptoms reappear within 2 months, you should consult your doctor.

How to use the vaginal tablet with the applicator:

Pull the applicator rod (A) out as far as it will go. Gently squeeze the front of the applicator with your fingers and insert the tablet into the applicator (B) with the flat side facing inwards. The round side of the tabletshould protrude by about half its length.

Carefully insert the applicator with the tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina (preferably whilst lying on your back). Gently push the applicator rod (A) all the way in, so that the tablet is placed inside the vagina . Remove the applicator.

Clean the applicator thoroughly with warm (not boiling) water after use . To do this , remove the applicator rod (A) completely from the applicator (B). During pregnancy, you should administerthe vaginal tablets without usingthe applicator.

Use without the applicator:

Insert the tablet as deeply as possible into the vagina – preferably whilst lying on your back with your legs slightly bent.

Children and adolescents:

The vaginal tablet is intended for use in adults. In persons under 18 years of age, treatment with the vaginal tablet must only be carried out on medical advice .

No data are available on the safety and efficacy of Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn Once Combi in children and adolescents.

Method of use (cream):

Apply a thin layer of the cream to the affected areas of skin 1–3 times a day and rub in. A strip of cream approximately 1/2 cm long is usually sufficient to treat an area roughly the size of the palm of the hand .

For infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas in women,apply the cream 1–3 times a day to the affected skin areas (external genitalia up to the anus).

In cases of simultaneous inflammation of the external female genitalia and inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men (Candida balanitis), the partner should also undergo additional local treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole Cream to prevent a relapse.

You should not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicides or other vaginal products whilst being treated with this medicine.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is clotrimazole.

Vaginal tablet:

• 1 vaginal tablet contains 0.5 g of clotrimazole.
• The other ingredients are: calcium lactate pentahydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, maize starch, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, lactic acid.

Cream:

• 1 g of cream contains 0.01 g of clotrimazole.
• The other ingredients are: benzyl alcohol, 0.1 g cetylstearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, purified water, sorbitan monostearate.
