Kinderlax® electrolyte-free is a medical product for the symptomatic treatment of constipation in children aged 6 months to 12 years. The unique formulation is specially tailored to the needs of children - for greater well-being.
Kinderlax electrolyte-free allows guideline-compliant treatment of chronic constipation in children aged 6 months to 12 years. The active ingredient macrogol is not absorbed in the intestine. It remains with the stool in the intestine and binds water, softening the stool and facilitating bowel evacuation.
Kinderlax electrolyte-free is a powder for the preparation of an oral solution, whereby one sachet is stirred into at least 50 ml of water or other liquids (e.g. fruit juices). Unused drinking solution can be stored in the refrigerator at 2-8 °C for up to 24 hours. The preparation has a neutral taste and is free from colourings, preservatives and flavourings.

Directions for use
Always use this medicinal product on your child after consulting your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
It is recommended to start treatment with a dose of 0.4 g macrogol per kilogram of body weight. This corresponds to 1 sachet of Kinderlax electrolyte-free per 10 kilograms of body weight. The following table can be used as a guide for the initial dosage:
- Child's age 6 months to 1 year: 1 sachet (4 g) (daily dose)
- Child's age 1 to 4 years: 1 to 2 sachets (4 to 8 g) (daily dose)
- Child's age 4 to 8 years: 2 to 4 sachets (8 to 16 g) (daily dose)
- Child's age 8 to 12 years: 3 to 8 sachets (12 to 32 g) (daily dose)
As therapy progresses, the daily dose should be increased or decreased as required to ensure regular bowel movements with soft stools. If your child has very soft stools or diarrhoea, you should reduce the dose.
If your child takes more than one sachet of Kinderlax electrolyte-free per day, the number of sachets can be reduced. If your child only takes one sachet, the amount of solution your child takes should be reduced.
If regular bowel movements with soft stools are not achieved after 3 days with the initial dose (see table), the dose can be increased. In this case, please consult your child's doctor beforehand. The maximum daily dose is 1 g macrogol per kilogram of body weight.
In order to determine the optimum dose for your child, it may be useful to keep a stool diary in which the frequency and consistency of the stools are recorded. If you keep such a diary, you should always take it with you to medical appointments so that the doctor can adjust the dosage of Kinderlax electrolyte-free accordingly.
Method of use:
- Kinderlax electrolyte-free is a powder that is dissolved in water and then drunk. Instead of water, other liquids (e.g. fruit juices) can also be used to dissolve the powder. A volume of at least 50 ml of liquid should be added to the powder per sachet to prepare the solution. Stir until the powder has completely dissolved and give this solution to your child to drink.
- It is not necessary to drink the prepared solution all at once. The solution can also be taken throughout the day.
- The ready-to-drink solution can be stored in the refrigerator (2-8 °C) for a maximum of 24 hours.
Duration of treatment:
- Kinderlax electrolyte-free can be taken over a longer period of time. The treatment of constipation with a laxative should support a healthy lifestyle and diet.
Notes:
- If your child has taken more than the recommended amount of Kinderlax electrolyte-free: If larger doses are taken, side effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea and vomiting may occur to an increased extent, which normally subside when treatment is interrupted or the dose reduced. High fluid losses can disturb the electrolyte balance. In such a case, please consult your paediatrician!
- If you have forgotten to take Kinderlax electrolyte-free: Do not give your child a double dose, but continue with the intended dosage.
