Food supplements :

Food supplements or supplements belong to the food category and are different from medicines. As the name suggests, these are products that are intended to supplement the normal diet. They are primarily food supplements containing vitamins, trace elements and minerals. In addition, there are dietary fibre preparations or combination products with various other ingredients in a concentrated form. Food supplements are offered in various forms such as capsules, tablets, powder, bars or in liquid form.

The active ingredients they contain are either present in a single or multiple concentration. These include

  • Vitamins, minerals and trace elements
  • Amino acids (short & long-chain protein compounds)
  • Dietary fibre and prebiotics
  • Secondary plant substances
  • Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, essential fatty acids
  • Other ingredients such as algae, apple cider vinegar, brewer's yeast, creatine powder or coenzymes.
  • Various fillers such as gelatine, preservatives, colourings, sweeteners, etc.

The use of supplements is particularly useful for women who wish to have children, pregnant women, athletes, people with unbalanced eating habits - vegans, vegetarians or in the case of nutrient deficiencies. It should be noted that the daily recommended intake must be observed for food supplements and only the so-called "health claims" (health-related statements) may be listed.
