Adequate sleep is important for physical and mental health and well-being. We spend around a third of our lives asleep.

Sleep consists of several sleep cycles. Important processes take place in the body whilst we sleep. Phases of rest and relaxation alternate with phases of deep sleep.

During deep sleep, we reach the deepest stage of sleep. This is when physical recovery is in full swing. Experiences are processed and what we have learnt is stored. Sleep is therefore an important part of a person’s daily routine; it serves to restore and regenerate bodily functions.

The amount of sleep a person needs varies. Generally speaking, however, most people need at least seven to eight hours’ sleep per night. Melatonin helps to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.

What exactly is melatonin?

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pineal gland in the diencephalon. Natural melatonin production increases as darkness falls and peaks between 2 and 4 o’clock in the morning. It then drops again during the second half of the night.
Melatonin is found only in small quantities in plant-based foods. Melatonin helps to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep. To achieve the desired effect, 1 mg of melatonin should be taken shortly before going to bed.

The Doppelherz melatonin dietary supplement contains 1.8 mg of melatonin and, thanks to its mini-tablets, is particularly easy to swallow.

Directions for use

Falling asleep: Take 1 tablet with plenty of liquid shortly before going to bed.
Notes: As alcohol reduces the effect of melatonin on sleep, you should not drink alcohol whilst taking melatonin. Children, adolescents, pregnant women and people suffering from liver, kidney or autoimmune diseases should not take this food supplement. People taking medication should only take melatonin after consulting their doctor or pharmacist. Melatonin should only be taken for a short period of up to 3 weeks.
