lytomed® contains a precisely defined combination of dextrose (glucose), table salt, potassium citrate and sodium citrate for the rapid replacement of electrolyte and fluid losses in the event of diarrhoea (oral rehydration solution). The composition of the finished electrolyte solution corresponds to the recommendation of the expert committee of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

When diarrhoea occurs, the body loses important salts as well as fluids. The most important immediate measure is to compensate for the loss of fluids and minerals in order to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

In addition, lytomed®contains natural blueberry extract with a standardised content of tannins and anthocyanins. Dried bilberries have been used in folk medicine since ancient times as a proven remedy for diarrhoea and intestinal inflammation. The active plant substances in blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus) support the normalisation of disturbed bowel function.

Tannins have an astringent effect, i.e. they seal the intestinal mucosa. New research findings show that anthocyanins - the purple colouring agents found in blueberries - inhibit an enzyme that plays a key role in inflammation.

How to use

• Preparation: Dissolve the contents of one sachet in exactly 250 ml of water. Observe the exact mixing ratio and prepare the solution immediately before use. Depending on the loss of fluid, the solution should be taken several times a day, at least after every bowel movement. Do not use unused solution after 1 hour. The prepared solution can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
• Drinking quantity and dosage: Dosage and duration of treatment are generally based on the doctor's instructions. Unless otherwise prescribed, the following amount should be drunk for rehydration in the first 6 to 12 hours

to 12 hours:

*Infants and schoolchildren: 50-150 ml/kg body weight

*lytomed® is suitable for children from 2 years of age.

Adults: 20-40 ml/kg body weight

In case of vomiting, the lytomed® solution is best administered cold, in short intervals by spoonfuls or sips.

Notes:

• Lytomed® is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Not suitable as the sole source of nutrition. Use under medical supervision. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Store in a dry place and not above room temperature. Keep out of reach of children. Always ensure sufficient fluid intake (unsweetened fennel or camomile tea).
• If there is no improvement after 3-4 days at the latest, a doctor should be consulted. In case of symptoms such as fever or blood in the stool, severe vomiting or extreme weakness, immediate medical clarification is necessary. A doctor must be consulted in all cases of diarrhoea in infants and small children.
• lytomed® must not be taken in the case of kidney disease, reduced blood acidity, insatiable vomiting, shock, loss of consciousness and monosaccharide malabsorption. Due to the high glucose content, lytomed® should only be used by diabetics after consultation with their doctor. In the case of cardiac insufficiency, severely elevated blood pressure, other underlying diseases or concurrent use of medication, lytomed® should only be used in accordance with the doctor's instructions.
