TUSSIMONT COUGH TEA consists of a blend of tried-and-tested medicinal plants (thyme, ribwort plantain, marshmallow and aniseed) that have been used for colds since time immemorial. Marshmallow and ribwort plantain contain mucilage, which has a soothing effect. Aniseed and thyme are rich in essential oils, which loosen stubborn mucus and thus make it easier to cough up. Aniseed and thyme also have antispasmodic properties.

Active ingredients

• Thyme: The essential thyme oil extracted from this medicinal plant has an antispasmodic effect on the bronchi and helps to loosen phlegm in cases of bronchitis and catarrh of the upper respiratory tract. It both increases secretion and enhances the transport function of ciliary movement (the tiny hairs on the mucous membrane) in the bronchi. The antibacterial and antiseptic effect of thymol (the oil’s main active ingredient), which acts on the inflamed bronchial mucous membranes, is also utilised. This antibacterial effect hinders the proliferation of bacteria. Thyme cleanses the bronchi and relieves the spasmodic contraction of the muscles surrounding them.
• Ribwort plantain: The mucilage it contains helps to soothe irritation caused by thick bronchial catarrh with heavy mucus production. This makes use of both the protective effect of the mucilage and the astringent effect of the tannins it contains, which help to reduce increased secretion. The antibacterial properties of the glycoside aucubin also have a beneficial effect.
• Marshmallow: The mucilage it contains soothes irritation by forming a protective layer over the mucous membranes of the throat and bronchi. This helps to calm these inflamed and irritated areas. Marshmallow is used as a gargle for dry, irritating coughs and for inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and throat.
• Aniseed: In aniseed, the essential oil extracted from the fruit – whose main component is anethole – is responsible for its efficacy. Due to the secretion-promoting and antispasmodic effects of the essential oil, aniseed is administered for respiratory conditions and catarrh of the airways. Its antibacterial effect is also beneficial in this context.

Usage

• Adults and young people aged 12 and over: one cup up to 5 times a day.
• Children aged 2–11: one cup up to 3 times a day.
• Preparation: Pour boiling water over 1 tea bag per cup, cover and leave to infuse for at least 5 minutes. The tea can be sweetened with honey, sugar or sweetener to taste. Drink the tea whilst it is lukewarm. TUSSIMONT COUGH TEA should always be freshly prepared and consumed within 12 hours.
