Directions for use
- At the start of treatment , Posterisan Akut should be applied 2 to 3 times a day; once symptoms have improved , twice a day. The amount of rectal ointment used depends on the size of the affected areas of skin and mucous membrane. You must consult a doctor if your symptoms have not improved within 7 days or if they recurshortly after stopping use of the rectal ointment .
- Posterisan akut contains a fast-acting anaesthetic. For this reason, it is recommended that only a small amount of the rectal ointment be used. The maximum single dose of 2.5 g of rectal ointment must not be exceeded.
- Posterisan akut is applied in the morning and in the evening, preferably after a bowel movement. It is recommended that the medicine be stored at room temperature (18–25 °C) to make it easier to apply the rectal ointment. When applied outside the anus, the rectal ointment should be applied in a thin layer and gently rubbed inwith a finger.
- The pack includes an applicator with side openings , which helps to distribute the rectal ointment evenly and in sufficient quantity within the anal canal and theadjacent rectal area.
- Screw the applicator onto the tube and remove the cap.
- Squeeze the tube to dispensethe rectal ointment into the applicator until it emerges from the side openings.
- Carefully insert the applicator into the anus until you feel it stop clearly . Lubrication can be improved by coating the applicator with a small amount of rectal ointment. Pressing the tube again will then dispense the rectal ointment into the anal canal . Careful rotation of the tube ensuresthe rectal ointment isdistributed sufficiently .
- When applying ointments and suppositories to the anal area , your underwear may become soiled. It is therefore recommended that you cover the anal area (e.g. with a tissue or a cotton wool pad).
- The duration of use depends on the type and severity of the symptoms. However, the rectal ointment must not be used continuously for longer than 7 days without medical advice. If the symptoms return shortly after stopping treatment , you must consult a doctor.
- The dosage recommendations described above also apply to children and adolescents (≥ 50 kg) aged 12 years and over. Posterisan akut must not be usedin children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 50 kg.
