How to use
- At the start of treatment, Posterisan acute is applied 2 to 3 times a day, then twice a day once the symptoms have been alleviated . The amount of rectal ointment depends on the size of the areas of skin and mucous membrane to be treated. You must consult a doctor if your symptoms have not improved within 7 days or if they reappearshortly after stopping the rectal ointment .
- Posterisan acute contains a fast-acting anaesthetic, which is why it is recommended that you only apply a small amount of rectal ointment. The maximum single dose of 2.5 g rectal ointment should not be exceeded.
- Posterisan acute is applied in the morning and evening, preferably after a bowel movement. It is recommended to store the medicine at room temperature (18 - 25 °C) to facilitate the application of the rectal ointment . When used outside the anus, the rectal ointment is applied in a thin layer and carefully rubbed in with the finger.
- The pack contains an applicator with side exit openings , which is used to distribute the rectal ointment evenly and in sufficient quantity in the anal canal and neighbouring rectal area.
Using the applicator:
- Screw the applicator onto the tube and pull off the cap.
- Press on the tube to squeezethe rectal ointment into the applicator until it emerges from the side openings.
- Carefully insert the applicator into the anus until you feel a clear stop . The lubrication can be increased by applying a little rectal ointment to the applicator . The rectal ointment is then released into the anal canal by pressing on the tube again . Sufficient distribution of the rectal ointment is achieved by carefully turning the tube.
Cleaning the applicator after use is best done by squeezing out some rectal ointment from the side openings, wiping the surface with absorbent paper and replacing the cap to prevent the rectal ointment from drying out in the applicator . If the rectal ointment is not used for a longer period of time, the applicator should beunscrewed and cleaned with warm water.
Note:
- The application of ointments and suppositories in the anal area can cause soiling of the underwear. It is therefore recommended to cover the anal area (e.g. with a tissue or a cotton pad).
Duration of use:
- The duration of use depends on the type and severity of the symptoms. However, the rectal ointment must not be used continuously for longer than 7 days without medical advice . If the symptoms reappear shortly after stopping use , you must consult a doctor.
Use in children and adolescents:
- The dosage recommendations described above also apply to children and adolescents (≥ 50 kg) over 12 years of age. Posterisan acute must not be used on children under 12 years of age or under 50 kg.
