Product information "Nicorette 15 mg/16 h - transdermal patch"
Nicorette 15 mg/16 h – transdermal patch is a medicinal product used to help people give up smoking. Nicorette contains nicotine as its active ingredient, which is released steadily and in a controlled manner through the skin into the body over a period of 16 hours.
The supply of nicotine via the Nicorette patch ensures that the withdrawal symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal do not occur, or at least occur in a significantly milder form, thereby reducing the patient’s craving for cigarettes. These withdrawal symptoms primarily include irritability, restlessness, anxiety, increased appetite, difficulty concentrating and trouble falling asleep, which in many cases lead patients to take up smoking again. Nicorette acts as an aid and makes quitting easier, even in difficult cases, although appropriate motivation, willpower and perseverance are essential prerequisites for any smoking cessation programme.
Nicorette® transdermal patch can also be used as an aid for smokers during periods of temporary abstinence, when smoking is not possible or desirable.
Applying the Nicorette® transdermal patch whilst awake (for around 16 hours) is sufficient to effectively reduce withdrawal symptoms.

Each morning, immediately after getting up, remove the protective film and apply one patch as described below to a clean, dry, hairless and unbroken area of skin on the upper body, upper arm or hip. To do this, press the patch firmly against the skin for 10–15 seconds.
- You should wash your hands before applying the patch.
- Cut open the sachet with scissors along the marked line and remove the patch.
- Peel off part of the silvery aluminium protective layer. Take care not to touch the adhesive side of the plaster with your fingers, so as not to reduce its adhesive properties.
- Carefully apply the adhesive side of the plaster to a clean, dry, hairless and unbroken area of skin on the upper body, upper arm or hip. Then remove the second part of the silver aluminium protective layer.
- Press the plaster firmly onto the skin with the palm of your hand or your fingertips.
