Imodium 2 mg capsules are a medicine for diarrhoea and contain the active substance loperamide hydrochloride. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in adolescents from the age of 12 and adults.
Treatment with loperamide hydrochloride beyond 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and observation of the course of treatment. If you do not feel better or even worse after 2 days, consult your doctor.
Imodium is an anti-diarrhoeal agent.
It is used to treat short-lasting (acute) diarrhoea that cannot be controlled with other measures (diet, replacement of water and salts) and for which the administration of antibiotics is not indicated.
IMODIUM® 2 mg capsules are used to treat acute diarrhoea. The stool becomes firmer again. This counteracts unnecessary weakening of the body due to excessive loss of fluids and electrolytes.

- Imodium is a medicine for diarrhoea and contains the active substance loperamide hydrochloride.
Dosage form
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 2 capsules to start with. Then, if necessary, 1 capsule after each occurrence of diarrhoea. The maximum dose is 4 capsules per day.
- Dosage for adolescents aged 12 and over: Initial dose 1 capsule and maximum dose 4 capsules per day.
- The first dose is taken at the start of treatment for acute diarrhoea. Thereafter, the repeat dose should be taken after each unformed stool. The recommended maximum daily dose must not be exceeded.
- Children under 12 years of age: Imodium must not be taken by children under 12 years of age.
- Route of administration: Oral use: The hard capsules are taken whole with a little liquid.
- Duration of use: Do not take Imodium for longer than 2 days without medical advice. If diarrhoea persists after 2 days of treatment with Imodium, Imodium must be discontinued and a doctor consulted. Treatment with medicines containing loperamide for longer than 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and observation of the course. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Imodium is too strong or too weak.
Ingredients
- The active substance is: loperamide hydrochloride. Each hard capsule contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are: Capsule contents: lactose, maize starch, talc, magnesium stearate, capsule shell: gelatine, colouring agents [titanium dioxide (E 171), yellow and black iron oxide (E 172), indigotine (E 132), erythrosine (E 127)].
