Acimed® capsules are a dietary food for special medical purposes (balanced diets) with the active ingredient L-methionine. For the dietary treatment of acute and recurrent urinary tract infections.

How does Acimed® work?

L-methionine, the active ingredient in Acimed®, is an essential sulphur-containing amino acid. It serves the human organism as a protein building block and source of sulphur. When L-methionine is broken down, protons are produced which are excreted in the urine and acidify it (= lower the pH value).

The urinary acidifying effect of L-methionine:

Inhibits the growth of bacteria (bacteriostatic),
Improves the effect of some antibiotics that work in an acidic environment.

L-methionine also reduces the adhesion of unwanted bacteria in the urinary tract.

Directions

Take 1 capsule 3 times a day unchewed with a little liquid before meals.
In order to achieve rapid urinary acidification, 2 capsules can be taken 3 x daily in the first few days.
Advice: In case of known hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients. For infants. Do not consume during pregnancy.
Precautionary measures: Treatment with L-methionine can lead to an increase in homocysteine levels if there is a deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B2, B6 and/or B12. Long-term use of Acimed® should therefore be accompanied by an adequate supply of folic acid and B vitamins in the diet.

Other ingredients: gelatine, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, magnesium salts of fatty acids.
