Betaisodona® vaginal suppositories help to quickly restore the natural vaginal environment. Burning and itching subside rapidly.
What are Betaisodona vaginal suppositories and what are they used for?
Betaisodona Vaginal Suppositories are suppositories for insertion into the vagina. Once inserted, they dissolve slowly, releasing the active ingredient. Povidone-iodine has a broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and protozoa (single-celled organisms). Betaisodona Vaginal Suppositories help to quickly restore the natural vaginal environment. Burning and itching subside rapidly. Due to the way it works, there is no risk of resistance (resilience of infectious agents) to povidone-iodine. By binding to povidone, the iodine largely loses the irritating properties of alcoholic iodine preparations and is well tolerated on the skin, mucous membranes and wounds. During the course of action, the iodine discolours; the depth of the brown colouration therefore indicates its effectiveness. If the colour fades, a further application is required. Povidone-iodine is water-soluble and easily washed off.

If your symptoms worsen or show no improvement after 2–5 days, you must consult a doctor.

Directions for use
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
Dosage and method of use
- For vaginal use (use inside the vagina): Remove the Betaisodona vaginal suppository from its wrapper, moisten it well and insert it deep into the vagina. It is recommended that you wear a sanitary towel during treatment. The recommended dose is: insert 1 Betaisodona vaginal suppository deep into the vagina in the evening before going to bed. Treatment must be carried out daily (including during your period). In persistent cases, Betaisodona vaginal suppositories may also be used twice daily. To support this treatment, Betaisodona vaginal gel may be applied to the external genital area, particularly in cases of inflammation of the external vagina (vulvitis). During treatment, your partner should also always be treated with Betaisodona Vaginal Gel to prevent re-infection. Do not use Betaisodona Vaginal Suppositories together with other products in the vagina.
Duration of treatment
- Betaisodona Vaginal Suppositories should be used for as long as signs of inflammation (e.g. burning or itching) persist. If your symptoms have not improved after several days (2 to 5 days) of regular use of Betaisodona Vaginal Suppositories, or if symptoms reappear after treatment has finished, please consult your doctor. Treatment should not last longer than 5 to 10 days, but your doctor may prescribe a longer course of treatment if necessary.
Note: Povidone-iodine can be easily removed from textiles and other materials using warm water and soap; in stubborn cases, use sal ammoniac (ammonia) or fixing salt (sodium thiosulphate solution).
Use in children and adolescents
Betaisodona vaginal suppositories should not be used before the first menstrual period. Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you feel that the effect of Betaisodona vaginal suppositories is too strong or too weak.
