- Colon polyps usually cause no symptoms and can remain undetected for many years. Early detection is particularly important for colon cancer: the chances of survival are over 90% if the cancer is recognised and treated at an early stage.
- The development of colon polyps can only be prevented by regular screening examinations, as the cause is largely unknown. From the age of 40, an annual occult blood test is recommended. If parents or siblings (first-degree relatives) have been diagnosed with intestinal polyps, the test should be carried out earlier and more frequently - there is a possible risk of a hereditary predisposition.

Application
- The stool sample is collected using a sample stick and placed in a sample container pre-filled with buffer and shaken. The sample mixture is then dropped onto a test cassette for analysis.
- What does the result tell me?If the test shows a positive result (two lines in the result field), you can assume that there is blood in your stool. This needs to be clarified by a doctor. The blood can also have other causes (e.g. haemorrhoids). If the doctor detects polyps, it is primarily their size that determines the risk of bowel cancer.
- How does this test work? This test enables the detection of non-visible (so-called occult) blood in the stool. No special dietary requirements need to be observed. The test specifically and accurately recognises human bleeding and is not influenced by food.
