Eye irritation – a recurring issue At times, our eyes can be very sensitive to irritating environmental factors. Dry, dusty or smoky indoor air, intense sunlight or even pathogens such as bacteria or viruses can cause inflammatory processes in the eyelids or conjunctiva. Regardless of what triggers the inflammation, the affected tissues almost always react with the same symptoms. As well as redness in the inflamed area, swelling also occurs. The body’s defence mechanisms and the resulting increase in metabolic activity lead to a warming of the affected mucous membranes. This is accompanied by pain caused by the release of certain neurotransmitters. Effective anti-inflammatory action with the active ingredient from willow bark Willow bark contains an active ingredient whose anti-inflammatory effect has been relied upon in medicine for over 100 years – salicylic acid. Its effectiveness in alleviating inflammatory processes is based on blocking the production of the body’s own messenger substances, which are responsible for triggering and sustaining inflammation. Similarly, it prevents the formation of certain pain-inducing substances, which patients experience as welcome relief from their symptoms. The anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects of this natural substance are ideally complemented by its mild antibacterial action. Thus, topical treatment with salicylic acid provides effective protection against unwanted secondary infections caused by bacteria or fungi. Excellent tolerability due to localised action When salicylic acid is used as eye drops, the anti-inflammatory effect is confined to the site of the condition. Due to its chemical structure and associated physical properties, salicylic acid is practically not absorbed into the bloodstream. Consequently, it cannot cause any undesirable side effects in the body. The eye drops enable continuous treatment of eyelid margin inflammation and conjunctivitis throughout the day – at work and whilst out and about. Indications: Symptomatic treatment of blepharitis, non-specific conjunctivitis, and irritation caused by dust, smoke or sunlight. In cases of infectious diseases, should not be used without appropriate concomitant anti-infective therapy.

Directions for use

Eye drops should always be administered in such a way as to avoid the tip of the dropper coming into contact with the eye or the skin of the face. Wash your hands. Figure 1: Take a clean tissue and gently wipe away any tears from the lower eyelid margin. Figure 2: Remove the cap before each use. Before using POSIFORLID COMOD® for the first time, hold the bottle with the dropper tip pointing vertically downwards and press the tip against the base of the bottle repeatedly until the first drop emerges from the tip. The bottle is then ready for subsequent use. Figure 3: Hold the bottle with the dropper tip pointing downwards by placing your thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and your other fingers on the base of the bottle. Figure 4: Rest the hand holding the COMOD® bottle on your free hand, as shown. Figure 5: Tilt your head back slightly, gently pull your lower eyelid away from your eye with your free hand, and press quickly and firmly on the centre of the base of the bottle. This activates the mechanism for dispensing a drop. Thanks to the COMOD® system’s special valve technology, the size and speed of the drop remain constant even when very firm pressure is applied to the base of the bottle. When administering the drops, avoid the tip of the dropper coming into contact with your eye or the skin of your face. Close your eyes slowly so that the liquid can spread evenly across the surface of the eye. Figure 6: Release your lower eyelid and press gently against your nose from the corner of your eye (see Figure 6). Whilst holding your finger against your nose, blink slowly several times to spread the drop across the eyeball. Then remove any excess eye drops. Figure 7: After use, carefully replace the cap on the dropper tip immediately. Please ensure that the dropper tip is dry. Repeat the process for the other eye.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is salicylic acid (Ph.Eur.) 1.0 mg/ml. The other ingredients are sorbitol, sodium citrate, citric acid, sodium hydroxide solution (for pH adjustment) and purified water.
