The tried-and-tested triple combination
The effect of Nervenruh forte is based on a well-established combination of three medicinal plants: valerian, passion flower and hops. Each plant is characterised in particular by its calming, relaxing or anxiety-relieving properties. They promote calm and balance in the human nervous system without causing drowsiness. They also strengthen the nerves and alleviate symptoms such as inner restlessness, nervousness and stress.
- Valerian: Valerian is native to Europe and Asia, with a total of 150 to 250 species. The plant’s preferred habitats are forests, damp floodplains or the banks of rivers and streams. It can grow to a height of up to two metres and is known for the intensely sweet scent of its white to pale pink flowers. Valeriana officinalis – its Latin name – contains calming substances that relax the muscles and have a soothing and sleep-promoting effect. Valerian is used wherever there is a need for calm: its uses range from inner restlessness to states of tension, nervousness and irritability.
- Hops: Hops are not only an important raw material in beer production; they are also used in the manufacture of sedatives. This wild-growing climbing plant has been cultivated in this region since the 8th century. At that time, botanists had already discovered the healing properties of hops. In folk medicine, they have been used for many centuries as an effective remedy for restlessness and nervousness. The hop cones from the female flowers are used to produce medicines.
- Passion flower: The extravagant flowers of the passion flower usually glow in vibrant shades of violet and red and can reach a diameter of up to 18 cm. The majority of the approximately 500 species originate from Central and South America. Furthermore, this climbing plant with its extraordinary flowers also has symbolic significance. It is said to represent the sufferings of Christ. The flower has three stigmas resembling nails, the corolla is reminiscent of the crown of thorns, and the five stamens symbolise the stigmata of Christ. Extracts are obtained from the herb – that is, all parts of the plant except the root – of Passiflora incarnata. These are primarily used to treat inner restlessness and difficulty falling asleep, but also for stress-related gastrointestinal complaints or tension headaches. Calming and antispasmodic – these are the properties attributed to the passion flower.
