Lutamax 10 mg capsules are a dietary food for special medical purposes. They have been specially developed for the dietary management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to protect the retina.

AMD is a slowly progressing disease in which the visual cells of the retina gradually lose their function, which in the worst case can lead to blindness. The cause of the disease is thought to be lifelong continuous damage to the photoreceptors caused by the energy of sunlight and the associated oxidative damage. At some point, the photoreceptors can no longer withstand this stress and begin to lose their ability to function and eventually die.

Lutamax® contains the plant substance lutein, which protects the photoreceptors from short-lived, high-energy blue sunlight because it filters precisely this light component very effectively. Lutein therefore acts like a natural pair of sunglasses. Lutein is found in many yellow and green vegetables. In Europe, however, we consume far too little lutein on average through our food , so an additional intake to protect our eyes is sensible and necessary.

A tip: Not only bright sunlight, but also short-wave blue radiation, such as that emitted by computer or smartphone screens, contains a lot of energy and can damage the eyes if you are exposed to it for too long. Therefore, try to avoid too much sunlight in the eye as well as working in front of a screen for very long periods of time to protect your eyes.

For the production of Lutamax®, a special highly concentrated lutein extract is used, which is produced especially for Pharmaselect. This enables us to achieve a high product quality and at the same time keep the capsules as small as possible so that they are easy to swallow.

The use of Lutamax® is recommended in the early stages of AMD. If you are already in the middle or later stages of the disease, we recommend the use of Lutamax® AREDS. Your treating ophthalmologist should decide which product is right for you.

How to use

1 capsule of Lutamax 10 mg per day is recommended for continuous use. This will keep the lutein level at the desired higher level.
It is recommended to take 1 capsule of Lutamax 20 mg daily for the first 6 months. This will quickly replenish the body's own lutein stores and promote the rapid storage of lutein in the eyes.
Important note: It is important to take Lutamax continuously on a daily basis. If you stop taking lutein, the levels in the retina will drop again significantly within a few weeks. The protective effect of lutein on the eye can only be realised if it is taken continuously.
