Beipackzettel ansehen

L-Mesitran® Foam is a sterile, highly absorbent foam dressing for animals that does not stick to the wound. The integrated L-Mesitran Soft Wound Gel creates an ideal moist wound environment, supports autolytic debridement and protects against infection.

L-Mesitran Foam is a sterile and non-adherent hydrophilic dressing made of polyurethane foam with a height of approx. 3 mm and impregnated with the patented L-Mesitran Soft wound gel. The gel contains 40 % medicated honey, hypoallergenic medical grade lanolin, propylene glycol, PEG 4000 and vitamins C and E. The foam dressing absorbs and stores wound exudate.

The dressing creates a moist wound healing environment that promotes the autolysis of necrotic and other devitalised tissue and thus stimulates wound healing. This serves to prepare the wound bed and promotes the migration of epithelial cells.

Properties

  • L-Mesitran Foam has an antibacterial effect.
  • L-Mesitran Foam is a primary dressing that can be fixed in place with an appropriate secondary dressing.
  • Due to the natural components of the product, there may be colour variations (white - yellow - brown).
  • The honey contained in the gel may crystallise, but this does not affect the effectiveness and/or application of the gel.

Areas of application

  • L-Mesitran Foam can be used to treat a variety of different exuding wounds, such as (diabetic) ulcers, pressure ulcers, 1st and 2nd degree burns, exuding wounds, extraction sites and chronic or post-operative wounds.
  • The foam dressing can be used throughout the entire wound healing process.

How to use

  1. Remove L-Mesitran Foam from the packaging and cut the dressing to the required size.
  2. Remove both protective films and place the side impregnated with honey on the wound.
  3. Apply an appropriate secondary dressing over the foam dressing to hold it in place.
  4. Examine the wound and surrounding tissue at regular intervals in accordance with local guidelines.
  5. In case of hypersensitivity to the foam dressing or its components, remove it using appropriate methods and clean the entire area carefully.

  • Frequency of dressing changes: Depending on the condition of the wound and the amount of exudate, L-Mesitran Foam may remain on the wound for up to 7 days. Dressings must be changed more frequently on heavily exuding or infected wounds.
  • Precautions: Always consult a doctor for adequate care of the wound. Do not use the product if the seal packaging is damaged or has already been opened. The dressings must not be used after the expiry date. Examine and clean the wound before applying the dressing in accordance with local guidelines. Due to autolytic debridement, the wound may initially appear larger after the first dressing changes; this is a natural process due to the breakdown of devitalised tissue and prepares the wound bed for healing. L-Mesitran Foam dressings are intended for single use only. Dispose of the dressings after use in accordance with local regulations.
  • Contraindications: The dressing must not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to the product or its components.
