The California poppy (Eschscholzia californica) is also known colloquially as the golden poppy, California cap poppy or dormouse poppy. As the name suggests, it originated in California and the south-west of the United States.

Outside of the flowering season, the golden poppy is a rather bare plant that rarely grows over 60 - 70 cm high. Once a year, the characteristic yellow-orange petals develop from its conical flower bud, making the imposing poppy fields a feast for the eyes. At seed time in August to September, extremely robust pods up to 12 cm long grow, which can survive any climate and weather conditions.

The California poppy is one of the herbs that bestselling author Anthony William particularly emphasises. As he rejects the use of alcohol, the tinctures he recommends are made with vegetable glycerine as an extracting agent. We have deliberately decided against glycerine from monocultures such as rapeseed, maize or palm oil. That is why we use vegetable glycerine from organic linseed for our alcohol-free tinctures.

The alcohol-free Californian poppy seed liquid is made from fresh poppy seeds and made into a strong extract immediately after harvesting. The alcohol-free poppy seed tincture is shaken regularly and left to mature for at least three months before bottling.
