When dry eyes become a pain

The eyes produce too little tear fluid or the tears are incorrectly composed. These are the two criteria used by the ophthalmologist to diagnose dry eyes. Depending on the severity of the disorder, dry eyes can have a very significant impact on quality of life. The symptoms associated with the condition, such as severe reddening of the eyes combined with a constant painful foreign body sensation, are extremely stressful for those affected.

Improved quality of life thanks to high viscosity

Eye drops for the treatment of severe and chronic dry eyes must ensure intensive and long-lasting moisturisation of the surface of the eye. A lasting moisturising effect can only be achieved with highly viscous eye drops that remain on the surface of the eye for significantly longer. The ingredient hyaluronic acid contained in HYLO® GEL is virtually predestined for this task. Due to its special properties and the extraordinarily high quality of the hyaluronic acid contained in HYLO® GEL, a concentration of 0.2% is already sufficient to achieve a significantly increased viscosity of the drip solution. It is important to note that, despite the almost gel-like consistency of HYLO® GEL, there is no impairment of visual performance.

Preservative-free and phosphate-free in the patented COMOD® system

• Preservatives, which are intended to prevent eye drops from becoming contaminated during storage and use, can damage the cells on the surface of the eye. These substances can destroy the natural tear film and can also be the cause of intolerance reactions¹. Modern tear substitutes are therefore completely preservative-free. HYLO® GEL is also preservative-free, as the patented COMOD® multidose system prevents the solution from being contaminated by microorganisms.
• In addition to preservatives, the phosphates often contained in eye drops can also have a harmful effect if the cornea is already damaged². The reaction with calcium, which is released from the cells of a damaged cornea, can result in crystals that are difficult to dissolve, which can lead to calcium deposits and permanently impair vision. Therefore, eye drops for the treatment of dry, damaged eyes should not contain phosphate. HYLO® GEL is completely phosphate-free and therefore eliminates the risk of crystal formation.

How to use

1. Remove the cap before each use. To do this, hold the cap just above the bottle and use your other hand to pull the bottle away from the cap with a twisting motion. Before using HYLO® GEL for the first time, hold the bottle with the dropper tip pointing vertically downwards and press the bottom of the bottle repeatedly until the first drop emerges from the tip of the bottle. The bottle is then ready for use for the following applications.
2. Hold the bottle with the dropper tip pointing downwards by placing your thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and your other fingers on the base of the bottle.
3. Support your hand with the COMOD® bottle on your free hand as shown.
4. Lean your head back slightly, pull the lower eyelid slightly away from the eye with your free hand and press quickly and firmly on the centre of the base of the bottle. This activates the mechanism for removing a drop. Due to the special valve technology of the COMOD® system, the size and speed of the drop are always the same, even if you press very hard on the bottom of the bottle. Close your eyes slowly so that the liquid can spread evenly over the surface of the eye.
5. Close the dropper tip carefully with the cap immediately after use. Please ensure that the dropper tip is dry. Avoid contact of the dropper tip with the eye or facial skin when dripping.

Instructions: 10 ml of solution can be taken from one bottle; this corresponds to approximately 300 drops. For production reasons, a small amount of liquid always remains in the bottle. The duration of use of HYLO® GEL is not limited. The same person should always be treated with the contents of a bottle of HYLO® GEL.
