Fenistil Gel contains an active ingredient that belongs to a group of medicines called antihistamines.

Fenistil gel is used to treat itching caused by insect bites, hives (urticaria), dermatoses, sunburn and minor superficial burns. The gel pleasantly cools and moisturises the skin. The specially developed anti-allergic active ingredient relieves itching and burning of the skin. Fenistil Gel also has a local anaesthetic effect. How does Fenistil Gel work?

Fenistil Gel stops itching by blocking the effect of histamine, a substance released by the body during allergic reactions. The gel penetrates the skin quickly and relieves itching and skin irritation within minutes. Fenistil Gel also has a local anaesthetic effect.

Why does a gel sting itch?

When stung, mosquitoes inject a saliva secretion into the skin so that the stung person's blood remains liquid and does not coagulate. The saliva secretion triggers the release of the body's own histamine - an allergic reaction that is usually limited to the puncture site and is usually associated with "agonising" itching. A wheal often forms at the injection site for a few hours.

How to use

• Children, adolescents and adults: Unless otherwise recommended by a doctor, apply 2-4 times daily to the affected skin area.
• Duration of use: Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve within a week.

Ingredients

• The active ingredient is: dimetindene maleate. 1 g contains 1 mg dimetindene maleate. 1 cm gel contains 0.24 mg dimetindene maleate.
• The other ingredients are: Benzalkonium chloride, sodium edetate, carbomer,propylene glycol, sodium hydroxide solution, purified water.
