Fenistil® 1 mg coated tablets, 30 ST

Fenistil coated tablets are a medicine containing the active ingredient dimetindene maleate, a so-called ‘antihistamine’. Fenistil coated tablets are effective against the symptoms of allergic conditions and all types of itching.

This medicine is used for:

• Itching caused by: eczema, childhood illnesses (e.g. chickenpox), insect stings and bites, food and medicine allergies
• Hives
• Sneezing and an itchy nose associated with allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis (hay fever).
• Itching without a skin condition

Fenistil coated tablets provide fast and effective relief from allergic reactions (after approx. 30 mins) such as hay fever, food and medicine allergies, insect stings and skin rashes (hives). The coated tablets relieve swelling, redness and itching from within.

For the symptomatic relief of

• histamine-induced itching
• itching associated with chickenpox in young children
• allergic rhinitis in patients over 6 years of age
• hives (urticaria)

The coated tablets may be used from the age of 12.

How do Fenistil coated tablets work?

Histamine, a chemical produced naturally by the body, causes allergic skin reactions such as swelling, itching and redness. The body releases increased levels of histamine when foreign substances (allergens) penetrate the skin and the body reacts defensively to these substances. Fenistil lozenges contain the active ingredient dimetindene, which blocks histamine in the body and thus reduces the typical symptoms.

Directions for use

• Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is: from the age of 12, 1–2 coated tablets three times a day.
• For patients prone to drowsiness, the recommended dosage is 2 coated tablets in the evening before going to bed and 1 coated tablet in the morning with breakfast.
• This dosage form is not suitable for children under 12 years of age; Fenistil drops are available.
• Elderly patients (over 65 years of age): The usual adult dosage may be used.
• Method of administration: For oral use. Swallow the coated tablet whole with a little water.
• Duration of use: Do not take Fenistil for longer than 14 days without consulting a doctor.

Ingredients

• The active ingredient is dimetindene maleate: 1 coated tablet contains 1 mg of dimetindene maleate.
• The other ingredients are: Core: cellulose, magnesium stearate (E 572), highly dispersed silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate Coating: gelatine, glucose syrup, povidone (K 25), titanium dioxide (E 171), talc (E 553b), sucrose, macrogol (35000), montan glycol wax.
