Nasal rinses with Emser salt are an important therapeutic component in the treatment of respiratory diseases in children. The quantity of 1.475 g of Emser salt is exactly matched to the filling volume of 125 ml of the Nasanita nasal douche for children. This means you can always prepare an isotonic solution that your child can use to rinse their nose without limiting the frequency and duration.

To be used for acute and chronic infections of the nose with or without involvement of

• the paranasal sinuses (sinusitis)
• the middle ear (tympanic effusion, middle ear inflammation)
• the bronchi (bronchitis)

How to use

Emser Salt® must be dissolved in water before use. As a rule, Emser Salz® should be used in an isoosmotic concentration (i.e. adapted to the mineral content of the blood ). For this purpose, the contents of a sachet containing 1.475 g are dissolved in 125 ml of water. Higher concentrations are only possible according to the doctor's instructions. Lower concentrations should not be used.

The following points must be observed when preparing a ready-to-use solution:

The quality of the water to be used depends on the intended use.

• When nebulising using a suitable nebuliser, the use of distilled water is recommended, as otherwise the nozzles of the devices could become blocked. The distilled water used should either be freshly distilled, otherwise boiling is recommended.
• Tap water (drinking water quality, preferably lukewarm) can generally be used to prepare a nasal rinse.Boiled tap water should be used for the first 3 days after endonasal surgery.

For nasal rinsing:

Adults and children aged 12 years and older shouldrinsetheir nose 1-3 times a day with 250 ml and children up to 12 years 1-3 times a day with 125 ml of isoosmotic solution.

For inhalation through the nose:

Inhalation through the nose should be carried out 3-4 times a day with an isoosmotic solution of Emser Salz® . Inhalation should always be carried out using a suitable nebuliser . Compressed air-driven or ultrasonic inhalation devices are suitable.

Depending on the type of device , the volume that must be used for nebulisation can vary greatly (5-300 ml). In any case, the inhalation device should be filled with enough solution to ensurean inhalation time of 10-15 minutes.
