Nasal rinses for children with a runny nose
Many children frequently catch colds or have a runny nose because their immune systems are still developing. As a result, they often bring one runny nose after another home from nursery or school, as they easily catch infections from one another there. Once the nose becomes really congested or blocked with mucus, the nose’s natural self-cleaning function can be impaired by the infection. This means that a harmless cold can develop into sinusitis or an ear infection. That is why it is important to treat respiratory conditions in children carefully right from the start.
Nasal rinses with Emser Salt gently support treatment through their natural action; they moisturise and cleanse the nasal mucosa, gently help to reduce swelling, and are recommended for clearing blocked noses. As an isotonic irrigation solution, nasal rinsing with Emser salt is used, for example, for acute or chronic colds or sinusitis.
Nasal rinses for children: uses and benefits
As with adults, a nasal douche for children serves to moisturise and cleanse the nasal mucosa. The irrigation solution flows from the nasal douche into the nose, rinses the nasal cavity, washes over the nasal septum and flows out again through the other nostril. This helps to flush dirt, dust, pollen, viruses and bacteria out of the nose. The colourfully designed Emser children’s nasal douche, complete with matching 1.475 g sachets of Emser salt, has been specially designed for nasal rinsing in children. Adapted to children’s ergonomics, little ones aged 3 and over can rinse their noses independently – under adult supervision, of course.
Using a nasal douche for children is particularly recommended for acute or chronic colds, sinusitis, fluid build-up in the middle ear or allergy-related symptoms. For acute problems, use your child’s nasal douche once to three times a day or as and when needed.

Directions for use
- Fill the nasal douche with water - Unscrew the cap and fill the Emser Children’s Nasal Douche Nasanita with water up to the mark (125 ml). Add the contents of one sachetof Emser Salt (1.475 g). Important: shake vigorously to ensure the Emser salt dissolves completely!
- Fold up the nasal tip - Fold the nasal tip upwards as far as it will go and place the Emser Children’s Nasal Douche ‘Nasanita’ against one nostril. Now remove your finger from the cap valve. The solution will then wash over the nasal septum and flow out through the other nostril.
- Rinsing the nose -You can also gently squeeze the rinse container. This gently increases the pressure of the rinse. This helps to clean the upper sections of the main nasal cavity more effectively, particularly the passages leading to the paranasal sinuses.
