- Sea buckthorn is found in Europe as a deciduous shrub with short-stemmed small nuts surrounded by yellow flesh. The orange-red to yellow fruits are therefore botanically known as "false stone fruits".
- The acerola cherry is native to parts of South America. Its red, ripe fruits have a slightly sour flavour.
