Healthy skin, hair and nails
The skin, hair and nails perform at their best every day by renewing and growing. To do this, they need vitamins and minerals, which we need to get regularly and sufficiently from our diet. In this way, we can support beauty from within through a healthy diet.
Doppelherz Skin + Hair + Nails Gums contain many vitamins and trace elements. But what are they actually good for?
B vitamins
The B vitamins fulfil a variety of tasks in the body. Vitamin B6 supports the normal synthesis of the amino acid cysteine. Cysteine is an essential component of the fibre proteins (keratin) in hair and nails. Like vitamin B12, folic acid has a function in cell division. Niacin (vitamin B3) contributes to the maintenance of normal skin. The "beauty vitamin" biotin is also one of the B vitamins.
Biotin
Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin from the B complex. It used to be called "vitamin H" - a reference to its importance for skin and hair, which was recognised early on. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and hair.
Zinc
Zinc is a vital trace element that the body can neither produce itself nor store in large quantities. This is why a regular intake through food is important. Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal skin, hair and nails.
Selenium
Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and nails. It also helps to protect cells from oxidative stress. As the selenium levels in plant-based foods are heavily dependent on the soil and tend to be low in this country, the supply is not always optimal. Good sources of selenium are meat, fish and eggs as well as lentils and asparagus.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation and normal skin function. In addition, vitamin C - just like the vitamin E and selenium it contains - helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin C is water-soluble and sensitive to heat, which is why it can easily be lost during cooking. To preserve the vitamin content, fruit and vegetables should only be washed briefly and vegetables should be steamed as gently as possible. As the body cannot store large amounts of vitamin C, regular intake is also important.
Vitamin A
Although vitamin A is primarily known for its importance for the eyes, it also contributes to the maintenance of normal skin. As a fat-soluble vitamin, it must be taken in through food. In animal foods such as egg yolk, mackerel or salmon, it is already present in an active form (retinol), while plant sources such as carrots, peppers or kale contain beta-carotene - a precursor that the body converts into vitamin A.
Iodine
Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones and normal thyroid function. As the soil in Central Europe has been low in iodine since the Ice Age, plant-based foods contain hardly any iodine - and animal products often only provide small amounts. This is why Germany is still considered an iodine-deficient country.
