Otrivin® Menthol 0.1% nasal spray, 15 ML

Otrivin® Menthol 0.1% nasal spray is an over-the-counter medicine used to treat various types of colds in young people aged 12 and over and adults. It works quickly and lasts for up to 12 hours; the menthol makes it particularly suitable for daytime use.

Otrivin contains the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride. It quickly clears a blocked nose and facilitates the drainage of secretions; this allows you to breathe freely through your nose. Otrivin is used to treat a blocked nose caused by colds, hay fever, allergic rhinitis or sinusitis. 

Otrivin starts to work within 2 minutes and the effect lasts for up to 12 hours. The flavourings menthol and eucalyptol (= cineol) have a cooling effect and further help with nasal breathing, particularly at night. 

If you do not feel any better, or if your symptoms worsen, after 1 week, consult your doctor.

Directions for use

• Young people aged 12 and over and adults: 1–2 sprays in each nostril once, but no more than three times a day. The last dose should be taken in the evening, generally shortly before going to bed. As a general rule, there should be an interval of at least 8 hours between doses. For adolescents up to 14 years of age, use must be supervised by parents or adults.
• Children and adolescents: Otrivin Menthol 0.1% nasal spray must not be used in newborns, infants, toddlers or children under 12 years of age.
• Duration of use: Otrivin Menthol 0.1% nasal spray must not be used for longer than 7 days, unless otherwise directed by a doctor. After 1 week of treatment, a break of several days must be taken.
• Method of use: For nasal use. Clean the nose thoroughly (blow your nose) before use. Before using the metered-dose spray for the first time: remove the protective cap and press the white nozzle down several times until the first spray is released. The spray is now ready for further use. Insert the spray nozzle into one nostril and press down (withdraw the spray nozzle before releasing the pressure). Breathe in gently through your nose whilst spraying. Replace the protective cap.

Ingredients

1. The active ingredient is: xylometazoline hydrochloride. 1 ml of solution contains 1 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride.
2. The other ingredients are: benzalkonium chloride, cineol, menthol, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sodium monohydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium chloride, sodium edetate dihydrate, sorbitol, macrogol glycerol hydroxystearate, purified water.1 spray = 0.07 ml of solution.
