Vitamin D is only absorbed in small amounts through food - and is largely produced by our body itself. However, the prerequisite for vitamin D production is that your skin can get enough sun. It's not for nothing that vitamin D is also known as the "sun vitamin"! As you can imagine, the vitamin D supply in winter often leaves a lot to be desired: Because in the cold season, your vitamin D levels often drop along with the sun's position. But did you know that even in summer, various factors can have an unfavourable effect on the formation of vitamin D? For example, people with a dark skin type, whose skin lets less UV rays through due to its higher pigmentation.

Your age also plays a role in vitamin D synthesis, as your own production decreases with age. Even if you spend most of your time in the sun with your skin covered or use sun cream, this impairs the production of vitamin D.
