What is damiana?
Damiana has the botanical name Turnera diffusa and belongs to the genus saffron mallow. The botanist Carl Ludwig von Wildenow first described the Damiana shrub in 1820. Damiana flowers yellow and grows to a height of around one to two metres. The downy, hairy parts of the plant are green. The leaves can have different shapes and are one to two centimetres long. The capsule fruit is round-oval and has a beguilingly sweet fragrance and a flavour similar to that of a fig. However, it is the leaves that contain the valuable secondary plant substances and essential oils.

Damiana capsules from ZeinPharma® are 100% vegan. The capsule shell consists of vegetable cellulose. We have deliberately avoided capsules made from animal gelatine. The inside of the capsule contains pure damiana leaf extract. The entire capsule is therefore free from animal components.
