The active ingredient of Sikapur® med cold sores gel is silicon gel (silica gel), a compound of the mineral silicon with oxygen and water.
The special thing about silicon gel, apart from relieving burning and itching, is its exceptional ability to bind wound secretions. Infectious wound secretions from herpes blisters are bound in a natural way - the blisters are specifically dried out. This inhibits the spread of the virus and accelerates the healing process. After the gel has dried, a white surface may form. This is a sign that the herpes blisters have dried out.
