Seewald Ortho Sulforaphane Premium Capsules are a food supplement containing sulforaphane from broccoli extract and vitamin C, which help to protect cells from oxidative stress.
A powerful blend of 500 mg of broccoli extract containing at least 10 per cent bioactive sulforaphane and vitamin C to help protect cells from oxidative stress.
Features
- Natural sulforaphane from broccoli flowers
- Extracted using a gentle water-ethanol extraction process
- Extract containing at least 10% sulforaphane
- Broccoli is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K and folic acid
- With vitamin C for cell protection
Broccoli is rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid and fibre, and contains antioxidants as well as a variety of other valuable plant compounds – one of the most important being sulforaphane. Vitamin C, which has particularly valuable properties in helping to protect cells from oxidative stress, perfectly complements the plant extract.
Sulphoraphans belong to the group of phytochemicals, more specifically to the isothiocyanates (mustard oil glycosides). They occur as natural compounds in cruciferous vegetables, with broccoli being the best source, followed by Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. When the cells of cruciferous vegetables are damaged (e.g. when the vegetables are eaten), two natural compounds come together: on the one hand, glucoraphanin, the precursor of sulforaphane, and on the other, myrosinase, the activating enzyme required to convert glucoraphanin into sulforaphane. The mustard oil has a pungent odour and generally serves to protect the plant from predators.
The gentle water-alcohol extraction (20:80) makes it possible to obtain broccoli extract containing at least 10 per cent bioavailable sulforaphane.
Despite the vegetable’s many other nutritional benefits, its sulforaphane content is relatively low, meaning one would have to consume large quantities daily to obtain the same amount of sulforaphane as is contained in a single capsule (50 mg). Due to their high water solubility, sulforaphane compounds leach into the water during cooking. However, the activating enzyme, myrosinase, is highly heat-sensitive. Broccoli should therefore be eaten raw or only briefly stir-fried, for example.
