Polyporus (Polyporus umbellatus, oak hare) is a tasty edible mushroom. It grows in dense clusters from June to October on the ground in oak and beech forests. A clump can contain up to 100 fruiting bodies, which can weigh up to 20kg. The light brown, two to five centimetre wide caps are characteristic. Its main area of distribution is Asia, where it is highly valued as an edible mushroom. It has been used in traditional Chinese dietetics for over 2000 years and is considered to be particularly yin-strengthening. Polyporus is rarely found in Europe. Polyporus extract also contains vitamin C (Ester-C®) with its many properties, in particular as a contribution to normal collagen formation for normal skin and blood vessel function and to protect cells from oxidative stress.

The special Ester-C® contains no free acid and is therefore considered to be better tolerated.
