Polyporus (Polyporus umbellatus) is a highly valued medicinal mushroom, also known as the oak hare. It prefers moist, shady environments and thrives from June to October in clusters on rotting wood, especially on the roots and stumps of deciduous trees such as oaks. These clusters often contain over 100 fruiting bodies and can weigh up to 20 kilograms. Typical for the appearance of the Polyporus are the light brown caps, which reach a width of two to five centimetres. This popular edible mushroom is rare in Europe and is mainly found in Asia.

It has been used in traditional Chinese dietetics for over 2000 years and is considered to be particularly yin-strengthening. It is very popular in Asia due to its valuable bioactive substances such as polysaccharides and beta-glucans. The BIO Amla extract is standardised to 50% vitamin C and, according to current research, is particularly characterised by its sustained bioavailability and good tolerability - it is a suitable source of vitamin C for people with a sensitive stomach or histamine sensitivity.
