Hildegard von Bingen already used lungwort in the form of "lungwort wine" for the lungs and bronchial tubes. The main ingredients of lungwort include mucilage, flavonoids, allantoin and silicic acid. Today, lungwort is mainly used in folk medicine. As the name suggests, the favourable effect of lungwort on the respiratory tract is traditionally exploited.
