It is best known in Asia and South America, where it grows naturally on dead wood or is now also cultivated. In traditional Chinese medicine, the medicinal mushroom has long been used to treat a wide range of illnesses such as infections and candidiasis and has therefore already been analysed in several studies for its proven medicinal effect. For a long time, the medicinal mushroom butterfly button was considered uninteresting in Europe, as it was not suitable as an edible mushroom and was only valued as a decorative object, if at all.
