Otrivin® Duo 0.5 mg/ml + 0.6 mg/ml nasal spray, 10 ML

Otrivin® Duo nasal spray is an over-the-counter combination medicine containing two different active ingredients. One of the active ingredients helps to relieve a runny nose, whilst the other has a decongestant effect.

How does Otrivin Duo differ from the other Otrivin products? 

Otrivin Duo contains two active ingredients: xylometazoline hydrochloride and ipratropium bromide. Xylometazoline is the long-established active ingredient in the Otrivin® range, which reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa. This helps those suffering from a cold to breathe more easily again. 

Otrivin Duo also contains ipratropium bromide, which stops a runny nose. This means you no longer need mountains of tissues when you have a cold, and you no longer have a sore, painful nose caused by blowing it.

Directions for use

Adults: One spray into each nostril as required, up to 3 times a day and for no longer than 7 days. Leave at least 6 hours between doses. Do not use more than three sprays per day in each nostril. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Use the lowest dose necessary to treat your symptoms and use Otrivin Duo for as short a time as possible to achieve the desired effect.

Duration of use: Do not use this medicine for longer than 7 days. As soon as your symptoms improve, it is recommended that you stop treatment with Otrivin Duo, even if this is after fewer than 7 days, to reduce the risk of side effects. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days, consult a doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice if you feel that the effect of Otrivin Duo is too strong or too weak for you.

Method of use: 

Vertical pump operated with two fingers: 

• Always blow your nose before using the nasal spray. 
• Remove the protective cap. 
• Do not cut off the tip. The metered-dose spray is ready for use.
• Before first use, the pump must be primed by pumping it four times. Once primed, the pump generally remains ready for use with regular daily application. If the spray does not dispense fully throughout the spraying process, or if the medicine has not been used for more than 6 days, the pump must be primed again by pumping 4 times, as at the start.

1. Blow your nose thoroughly before use. 
2. Hold the bottle upright with your thumb under the base and the spray nozzle between two fingers. 
3. Tilt your head slightly forwards and insert the spray nozzle into one nostril. 
4. Press the pump to deliver one spray and, at the same time, breathe in gently through your nose. 
5. Repeat this process (steps 1–4) in the other nostril. 
6. Clean and dry the spray nozzle after each use before replacing the protective cap on the bottle.

Pump operated from the side with your thumb:

Remove the cap. 

Before first use: Prime the pump by pressing it five times. Once primed, the pump generally remains ready for use with regular daily application.

1. Blow your nose thoroughly before use. 
2. Hold the bottle upright, with your thumb on the pump button. 
3. To prevent dripping, stand upright and insert the spray nozzle into one nostril.
4. Press the pump to spray once, whilst breathing in gently through your nose. Repeat this process (steps 2–4) in the other nostril. 
5. Clean and dry the spray nozzle after each use. 
6. Replace the protective cap until you hear a distinct ‘click’.

Notes: If the spray does not dispense fully during the entire spraying process, or if the medicine has not been used for more than 7 days, the pump must be refilled by pressing the pump twice. If the full spray is not dispensed, do not repeat the dose. To prevent infection, the spray must only be used by one and the same person. Do not spray Otrivin Duo into or around the eyes. Ingredients

• The active substances are: xylometazoline hydrochloride and ipratropium bromide.
• 1 ml contains 0.5 mg of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 0.6 mg of ipratropium bromide.
• One spray contains 70 micrograms of xylometazoline hydrochloride and 84 micrograms of ipratropium bromide.  
• The other ingredients are sodium edetate, glycerol (85%), purified water, sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid.
