Product information "Ophtaguttal eye drops"

Beipackzettel ansehen

Ophtaguttal eye drops for the treatment of conjunctivitis of the eye. This medicine reduces swelling of the conjunctiva and favours wound healing.

OPHTAGUTTAL "Agepha" eye drops are used for the symptomatic treatment of non-infectious (e.g. non-bacterial) irritations of the conjunctiva. OPHTAGUTTAL "Agepha" eye drops contain naphazoline as an active ingredient, which reduces swelling of the conjunctiva and inhibits conjunctivitis, and a zinc compound, which has a mild vasoconstrictive effect and promotes wound healing.

Indications:

  • For the symptomatic treatment of non-infectious irritations of the conjunctiva (non-infectious conjunctivitis)

Dosage form

Eye drops

Directions for use

  • Adults and adolescents: Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dose is 2-3 drops 3-6 times a day. Please note that the maximum daily dose of 18 drops per day per affected eye must not be exceeded.
  • Children from 2 - 12 years: There are no studies on children under 12 years of age that prove the safety and efficacy of Ophtaguttal "Agepha" eye drops in this age group. Therefore, no dosage recommendation can be given for the active ingredient combination naphazoline hydrochloride and zinc sulphate. In children aged 6 - 12 years, use should only be made after a careful risk-benefit assessment by the doctor and in a reduced dose (no more than 2 drops. There should be at least 4 hours between 2 applications). Use in children aged 2 - 6 years is not recommended.
  • Children under 2 years of age: Ophtaguttal "Agepha" eye drops must not be used in children aged 0-2 years (see also OPHTAGUTTAL "Agepha" eye drops must not be used ).
  • Use in elderly patients ≥ 65 years: The safety and efficacy of Ophtaguttal "Agepha" eye drops in elderly patients has not yet been proven.

Method of application:

For application to the eye. For instillation into the conjunctival sac of the diseased eye.

  • Wash your hands carefully before use.
  • Avoid contact between the tip of the bottle and the eye or eyelid.
  • Apply 1 - 3 drops in each eye (see also dosage above).
  • Tilt your head back, look upwards and pull the lower eyelid slightly downwards.
  • Close the eye for a few seconds without squeezing too much and then blink several times - Press gently with one finger on the corner of the eye next to the nose for as long as possible (e.g. 3 - 5 minutes). This helps to prevent the absorption of Ophtaguttal "Agepha" eye drops into the body.
  • Close the bottle after use.

If other topical medications for the eyes are used, an interval of 10 minutes must be maintained between applications.

Note for contact lens wearers: see also "Warnings and precautions" or "Ophtaguttal "Agepha" eye drops contain benzalkonium chloride.

Duration of use:

  • The maximum duration of application is 2 days. Use for more than 2 days may only be carried out after a medical examination and on a doctor's orders and should be monitored continuously. There should be an interval of at least 4 hours between individual administrations. Treatment with OPHTAGUTTAL "Agepha" eye drops should not be continued for longer than 7 days in adults and adolescents and for no longer than 3 - 4 days in children aged 6 - 12 years after careful consideration of the benefits and risks by the doctor. A break of at least 10 days should be observed before recommencing treatment. OPHTAGUTTAL "Agepha" eye drops must not be used for continuous treatment. Prolonged, uninterrupted use may result in damage to the blood vessels of the eyes and symptoms of habituation. If your symptoms have not improved or have even worsened after 2 days, please inform your doctor immediately. He or she will decide on further treatment measures.
