The liver is the central organ of the entire metabolism and the largest gland in the human body. Its most important tasks are the production of vital proteins, the utilisation of food components, the production of bile and the breakdown and excretion of metabolic products, medicines and toxins (e.g. alcohol).
The liver serves as the body's own filter system. It absorbs all substances from the stomach, intestines and pancreas via the portal vein. The liver reworks our blood so that all substances are present in the correct concentration. The liver's regenerative capacity is enormous, but not unlimited. If the liver can no longer cope with the onslaught of toxins, they enter the bloodstream unfiltered.
Artichoke leaf, dandelion leaf, cardoon herb and hyssop herb are used to support liver and bile function. Milk thistle fruit and turmeric support the liver. Zinc helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism.
